So much strategy comes into play these days. But in a straight wheel to wheel race in identical cars I would wager that LH could:

Beat Prost occasionally with some good luck
Beat Senna very rarely with some very good luck
Never beat M Schumacher
Beat Alonso occasionally with some good luck
Beat Kimi regularly with some good luck
Beat Vettel regularly with some moderate luck
Never beat N Mansell

All drivers at their prime ofcourse

 

And by good luck, you mean all of their cars breaking down and LH still racing? (minus vettel and kimi)

I find the Mansell placement odd. I never regarded him as good as Prost or Senna.

I agree Mansell may seem odd, but he's the only driver I know that won two WDC's back to back in different disciplines. F1 & Indy. That shows his core character & inherent skill.

He would have won 3 F1 WDC's if his cars had been more reliable. 12 retirements in one season IIRC.

All speculation of course - but I would have a prime Mansell in my team ahead of Hamilton, and not only to keep the demanding Nicole away from the garage. Lewis has his work cut out with that one.

 

Vettel is yet to prove himself outside of RedBull technology. Looking forward to him piloting the stallion this season or prancing pony...

4 titles (red bull tech or no, 4 consecutive titles has only been done twice in f1 history), a great win in the wet against a much faster Mclaren in a toro rosso AND points in his first ever f1 race say enough.

 

On I'm not doubting mansells title or his skill, I just didn't think he was as good as Prost or senna but hes top 10 of all time withiut question. I don't think there is a driver today that could do what they did back in the good ol days when people would race in multiple leagues and series around the globe.

I also agree on vettel not being proven. If he wins elsewhere he will earn more respect.

 

Exactly. Red bull or not the guy can drive and was more dominant with each successive year when red bull was winning.

 

If Hamilton was really good Ferrari would have made anything to sign him as they did for Vettel, Alonso and Schumacher. Unfortunately they never wanted him and that says a lot. Even the same McLaren didn't push that much to keep him and preferred Button to him. iMO he is the most overrated driver since Damon Hill and that's all due to the british press and fans once again.

 

How about Hamilton not wanting to drive a clapped out headless Fiat.

 

I can go with that, only Ricci seemed to throw a spanner in the works.

In Ham's ROOKIE year he beat his 2X WDC teammate (and would have won the WDC if not for his "forgetting how to turn the car on").
Those who watched the season with an unbiased view saw the most incredible recent season in Formula One. My favorite season by far.
Others saw something else and I can only guess what that was.
