Anyone know the story? ebay 206

finally we managed the reproduction of the cooling-water pipes...
the stainless steel ones offered by some part dealer are far too heavy and don`t look very much original....
as Ferrari used aluminium ones with start of production of the 308 GT4, I though that`s the material to use....

I´m just doing the lower mounting panel for the Dinoplex cover. It`s original a panel with a M5 bolt (see picture of #00178)
My question is does anybody know what kind of nut would be the original one?
A wing nut, three wings?!
Any hint appreciated....

I don't know ... however I've seen M6 knurled nuts on some L-series and M but the cover is different.
If the cover is supposed to be taken completely off then maybe an M5 knurled nut (like the airbox lid)?

Dash magnets look great, when I first saw these I thought someone had been to the hardware store and replaced them!

 

early L-series is for sure the same as 206 GT
I think my late L-series #01100 hasn`t this mounting, I will have a look the next days....
M-series is different, it has a mounting towards the bumper bolt

 

The knurled nut I was referring to was only at the top inner corner. I don't know what nut was used at the bottom mount except it was on the bumper bolt for late L/M as you said (mine is like this). Sorry, not much help....

 

My 206 had two knurled nuts to hold the cover in place, if that's any help

 

thanks Max, as your 206 GT is very special (from pilota department) and so early in production, it`s probably different to other 206 GT.
Normally it`s fitted with two screws in the top (see authentic picture) and the mounting on the floor of the boot/trunk I posted earlier.

But if your knurled nuts are original, this would maybe hint to a knurled nut for my floor mounting....

That's definately different from my 206.

 

I plan for the same configuration on my L-series #504. I.e. two slotted screws in the top and a knurled nut on the bottom bracket. Unfortunately both the slotted screws and the original nut on the bottom bracket were replaced with more modern versions.

Here is a picture of the M6 knurled nut top mounting I was talking about off my L-series (#01070 is shown).
Max, I wonder if the bottom nut on the 206 is the same type? (maybe the M5 version, same as the airbox lid).

for Peters #00504 should be the same type as my 206 GT
Andrew, I will use your M6 knurled nut for the the mounting on the floor of the boot/trunk of my Nart-Dino #00306

 

I built-in the original Lucas kill switch today
still need to do the pointer sticker but on no period pictures you can read what was writen on the sticker.....

I fitted the exact same kill switch on my Dino, but not poking through the vent ; )

 

no test drive yet, but close to the finish line..... one engine bay seal still missing....
I found new spot lights in the UK, much better now and quite close to the original ones....

Your car looks exceptional, as expected!

The shape of your Dinoplex carpeted cover & it's fixings are different to my car.

I also see you have center punched your boot hinges to reduce play in them. Setting up the boot to close reliably is not easy on a 206!

 

Great to see it outside, it has a really nice stance.
This car has come a long way in almost 4 years!!
Let us know how the test drive goes.

Really a bold decision to restore and modify it to as raced. That took an amazing amount of dedication to accuracy as it was modified in period. Since it was modified and raced by the official U.S. Ferrari Importer (Chinetti), is it eligible for getting Classisched?

Looks very good, and very authentic, Matthias.

Engine compartment also looks superb. Surprising that they chose to race it with the stock air box and cleaner. They must have aimed for reliability rather than speed.

The photos of the car is yet another reminder of how good and purposeful the Dino looks without bumpers - particularly in combination with the curved headlight covers.
