The torque curve of the Cali T is heavily braked at lower RPM, and the gear ratio is quite variable to augment the feel of driving a flat-plane crank V8. Although I'm no position to confirm your figure, the 3.9 Turbo engine is hugely capable and it would not surprise me if what you are saying is correct.

Fwiw just extensively drove a California T and was utterly disappointed by the car:
imho lacks personality and is totally lackluster, can't hear the engine, etc..
if the 458 successor is based on the T's engine things are likely to get quite generic and stale.. :(

Hope not. I wonder how you would have reacted to the old Cali vs. the new one.

Initial description is the car is an evolution from the current 458. The active aero plays a big role in the car, there are more vents on the side (similar to the mclaren and lambo designs) as well as a redesigned lower lip that is angular like a huracan and the front bonnet is completely different with air intakes. IT has a new side slip traction technology improved as well as an 80hp increase in power out put.

Interior changes are similar to f12 and passenger display is now available.

Maybe this was all discussed in this forum before, but I hope this info helps those who are keenly waiting. Car first impressions are that it looks great.

Hope this helps! we will find out next week in pics!

I have joined carlo and have driven the first cali many times. When it comes to sound for sure old. I did like the power from the T but carlo is right. No sound (not even remotely), way too soft feeling and the transmission to be brutaly honest has disappointed me. even for a double clutch it was amazingly slow when downshifting. Not to mention the 7 error codes (overheated cat, manettino failure, transmission failure, etc...) The car threw within the first hour of use . It was brand new with 80 miles on the clock...
And I agree on the stale part as well. Cars are turning very generic :(

    Appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.

Btw, does it mean it has "only" around 650 hp ? Wondering also how the transition to turbo engine affect the overall weight of the car.

Cali is of course designed for a different kind of owner/driver. I had some of the same impressions re the old Cali but always tempered them given that I am coming from the 458. For example I doubt if the 458 replacement will have slower DCT shifts, but there is certainly a big concern about engine response, sound, and heat soak, and whether we will still have the 9000 RPM scream. No doubt it will have plenty of torque but there are lots of cars that offer lots of torque, but they are not Ferraris.

I agree that cars in general, and perhaps exotics in particular, are becoming very generic. As I drove to work this morning, a car was waiting at a stop sign to make a right turn. I thought that it was a new Chevy Impala, until I passed the side street and realized that it was a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. I hope that whatever scoops are placed on the doors/quarter panels of the modified 458 body don't look too much like those on the Gallardo/Huracan/R8/MP4-12c/650S. It's getting really difficult to tell them all apart at a glance! I think that the new Acura NSX is very generic looking, while the new Ford GT is a refreshing break from look-alike styling. I hope that Ferrari has done an equally good job of modifying the 458 body. It's a high bar to clear! Both the current 458 and the new Ford GT are distinctive and class-leading in design. Fred

It might get a little generic in the own ferrari rows but that can just be seen as brand recognition when it comes to design. see below some new spy shots of the new model. It looks like the back is very similar to f12 design features

Thanks for sharing, always good to hear the same from several sources, although I had not heard about the passenger display! :)

I noticed a very well informed user posted in a different thread that pictures will surface in early February.

I drove the old Cali 30 in Maranello a few years ago and, although not as thrilling as
    the Italia, I liked it far better than the Cali T as the engine note was far more present;
albeit being less powerful than the T: as you know I am all about sound ;)

NA V12s await those who thrive on sound.... or hold on to your 458.

I thought it has 680hp, not 650. Jeez, now i feel 650 hp like a low power car :))

FYI If you own a 360 Modena and upgrade the exhaust to the CS sport exhaust, your car will sound almost the same as the CS. That's exactly what I eventually did when I owned the 360. The sport exhaust wasn't an option at the time of purchase but became available about a year later.

The unique five-valve sound of that engine was pretty magnificent!

So studying the latest spy pics, started sketching to see what makes sense in terms of what's under the camo - sorry for messy sketch, too tired and no time to re-do.

Could it be, maybe, 308-ish scoops in rear quarters?

Rest of the car is pretty visible. Rear quarter window no longer scooped for air intake - I expected that actually.

There seems to be pretty big "doors" behind the front spoiler leading edge to bleed off air to the underside of the car - at least that's what it looks like to me.

Duck-tail seems to be Laferr-ish in shape, if not function.
