To all, many thanks for the swifts replies, I will follow up your guidlines and of course, still hoping if someone will have pictures .... always willing to receive them. I will maybe be present at the Antwerp classic car show and for sure in Essen Germany.
And yes, I think i will stick to the original colour, it seems to be very standing and chic

Does anyone have an idea how it would cost to supply and 1) fit a new set of carpets and 2) leather interior for a Khamsin?

    Many thanks

    hiltsuk,
there are several answers to your question :)
    1. if you can save part of the original leather or carpets... do it. the original material is worth the preservation effort and it might even be cheaper than replacing it.
    2. i had both (leather and carpet) done on a k which i have sold by now. i do not have the invoices anymore but it was a low 5 digit euro amount for the whole thing including dashboard, doors, luggage compartment... the full monty interior renovation. it was properly done and looked great. depending on materials you chose the amount may vary. in any case you lose originality but you may customise and improve some things. i never regretted replacing the mouse-skin with plain leather for instance.
the shop which did the job for me is in germany. the car is today in holland. if you need more details contact me by pn.

New mousehair can also be had, depending on the colour: Light brown, anthracite and black IIRC are all available, but not dark brown.
If anyone knows a source for the dark brown please let me know, or if anyone is replacing theirs with other material, I'd be very happy with their original dash-top material if intact.

    Best,

    Jack.

Hello Richard and all from Retromobile, filled with Masers!

There are two Khamsins here 190 Artcurial which I had never seen and which was tucked away in Neuilly near Paris where I lived during my teens and I never ever saw it! I am not involved.

1142 is with Bonhams, a very good car and yes for full transparency I am involved so won't toot its horn lest I be accused of market manipulation or brain washing:)

Monday I was at the Gallery in Brummen, Holland and saw 343 a right hand drive and 172 which is still there but already sold so four Khamsins in 48 hours and 3 I had never seen before not bad:)

The car you ask about Richard is 411 last sold in 2007 or 2008 by Martin Chisholm, sold new by Pedigreed Cars Ltd. Bogton Place, Forres, Scotland!

If any of you are here send me an email or a PM I am here till Friday 5pm

    [email protected]

    All the best,

    Marc

    Hello Hiltsuk...

Rear Seat 25 sq. ft. 20/26 hrs
Rear and Side Panels 28 sq. ft. 25/35 hrs
Door Panels 18 sq. ft. 28/36 hrs
Door Panel Inserts 1 1/3 yds suede
Dashboard 14 sq, ft, 26/34 hrs
    Dashboard Top 2 yds suede
Console 12 sq. ft. 8/12 hrs
Headliner Trim 2 1/3 yds suede 12/18 hrs
Sunvisors 8 sq. ft. 6/8 hrs
    Headliner 1 1/3 yd 8/10 hrs

    Leather Binding 75 ft.
    Carpet Binding 150 ft.

PLease note that all these measurements are approximate. Your actual application

    when pricing materials and labor..

    Hope this helps..

    Hi from Paris Mike,

Bart and I are glad I suggested he put it in the auction and don't worry he is very much staying in the classic Maserati world though it is not for me to say what his next car is.

Right time to go to dinner here!

According to Bart the new owner paid a total of €209000 to Bonhams including their commission, which is a new all time auction record for Khamsins significantly beating the €178000 achieved by AM120234 at the Bonhams Spa May 2014 auction, the car that was best of show at KHAMSIN QUARANTA in 2012.

We will see in a day or two what the Artcurial auction AM120190 achieves but that car needs to be reawakened after years of slumber.

Right: now it is REALLY dinner time here over and out,

    Marc

    Hi Jack, Marc and all,

    Thanx for the congrats.
Marc, thx for your support in the sale of the K.
The recent sale of my Ghibli SS and now the K T-Top , both at record highs, does allow me to fulfil another dream. I will post it when it all materializes.
The recent price frenzy allows for this. Otherwise I would never have sold these fantastic beauties! Life is all snout priorities. I have fully enjoyed both cars and tried to share some of my knowledge on these cars so others may benefit from that. The new owners are both very happy with their aquisitions.

I will keep on following the threads but probably at more random intervals. First time in almost 40 years that I am without a classic Maserati, let's see how that works out....

To all: la leggenda continua, viva Maserati
    Ciao,
    Bart

I have had the privelege to attend "Retromobile" in Paris and the attached "Artcurial" auction who were auctioning the before mentioned blue, 5 speed, Euro spec. 1975 Khamsin. (chassinumber AM120190) The car has an auction result of €. 140.000.-- + 20% on tax and fees, so in total some €. 168.000.--

To me this is a lot of money for a Khamsin being in storage since 1981. Although it looked quite alright at first hand, a closer look is telling a whole different story. To my opinion it needs a complete recommissioning, (partly) paint job and interior works.

Being that long in storage, all seals and gaskets, hydraulics and rubber hoses needs to be replaced.

Currently restoring a Khamsin myself which has been standing for the last 20 years, i know quite well from experience how much work (and money!) is involved.

These cars are way to valuable to short cut things and therefore it will a least bring another €. 50.000.-- for all the recommisioning and neseccary body and interior work, if performed by a specialist.

Maybe we will see our beloved cars hitting the €. 300.000.-- mark (like the outstanding Ghibli examples), somewhere in the future, but when this will be the case, i sincerely hope there will still be a bunch of passionate afficinados left to enjoy the purpose of a Khamsin: driving it on the fast lane to exotic places and meetings, and not leaving it in dark storages as an investment!

    -Bart,

Happy to help, look forward to a ride in your next Maser:)

-Thank you Kyalami for the information,

I left Paris Friday evening so was awaiting to hear the result.

What can be said is that the price difference between the two K's sold at auction in Paris will allow this one to be brought up to the level of 1142 at equal expenditure. So the two prices are coherent.

    best regards,

    Marc

    Objection your honor,

#US1142 is a contemporary modified and unique motorcar. The price achieved reflects that.

To me #190 is way overpriced compared to what one can get in today's market! The car is a tatty non running car! A very good example of what happens if the speculators just want to have a car.

    Regards,

    Bart

Maybe this buyer really liked the T-top but I don't think that #1142 is worth more because of this modification.

So maybe he paid too much for #1142 (just as you feel the buyer of #190 did), OR these are just todays prices.

    Hi Bart and all,

Yes all right 190 seems to have benefitted from a barnfind vibe since I agree with you it is overpriced considering what your car sold for and my estimation of the needed expenditure in my earlier post was too low. I would not do much to it cosmetically though (apart of the mouse damage to the back seat:)

By the way those were headlights under its nose not fog lights: France uses yellow lights, someone had described them as being fog lights some days ago.
What is amazing is that 190 was in the Paris suburb of Neuilly sur Seine when I lived there but I never saw it even in the days before the doctor passsed away!

    Best regards,

    Marc
