I guess that's probably because, to me it sounds like the non-tuned 650s has a slight digital exhaust sound to it, while the 458 successor still sounds like a 458 but just muted.
I think you're just imagining it... Dunno how a stock 650S could sound digital. It's just an ICE engine and hot gases moving through a bunch of metal. Nothing digital about it.
I was one of those critical of the 458's looks upon its reveal. But, to be fair, even though I now think it one of the most beautiful cars ever made, I still think it looks odd in photos. And that, of course, is all we had to go on at the start.
