488 GTB (458 replacement)

This is step backwards in terms of design. Sure performance is a leap ahead but that front-end is boxy and odd to my eyes.

 

i like the front and the rear, not totally convinced about the side view.
all in all, great!

Yikes. It's not a bad thing, per se, but it looks almost identical to the 458.

Hmmmmm. The straight front view is very much like the Huracan.

Some of the lines I like right away....and some (like the side intake) are going to take some getting used to.

As long as it goes like hell.....

 

I agree the front is a bit heavy handed but the side scoops are amazing well done. I have no idea how they will get any trunk space upfront anymore though.

 

More technical looking all round. I love it!

 

Not sure about the giant holes in the sides. Or the mouth.

Need to see her in the metal.

Not so good looking like the old one but interesting. I vote YES.

 

Ill be making my order. Was offered December delivery but am opting to wait for April so that it doesn't just sit in my garage through the first winter!

488 looks like a nice upgrade to 458. 50% more downforce sounds good to me. I like the more aggressive look. This car makes the 458 look dated but not obsolete.

The interior feels like a big upgrade over the sloppier feel of the 458 interior. Maybe those new AC vent will actually be able to direct air to your face in the 488. They completely suck in the 458. It feels very modern and looks like the fit and finish is drastically improved.

Well done Ferrari! These are going to sell really well. Can't wait to drive one and can't wait to see McLaren's 675LT as well.

I wonder if they'll reveal the 488 Spider (guessing it will be 488 GTS) at Geneva or wait until another show?

 

If I have one knock against it...

they took some elements from the Scuderia, the F12 and the LaFerrari so it doesn't look nearly as "unique". It's sort of like we've seen it before.

But they did a good job I think in reskinning it to make it more aggressive.

This is a better success than the 360 to F430 IMO in an update. There's more sheet metal changes and what they did change makes it more aggressive looking.

 

Totally agree. The 458 spider has an AC system that would be inadequate in a Fiat 500.

458 sales are already dying quickly. Got a note from the dealer yesterday that they can order one immediately if I wanted.

 

Sorry to say be aesthetically the car doesn't work for me, the side scoops are overly prominent to my eyes. The front looks good with a lot of La Ferrari inspiration in my opinion.

The rear on the other hand looks like someone at Ferrari paid a visit to a tuner for inspiration.

However, the car may look better in the metal than in these predictably bad pictures.

BTW, nice to see that the unitary displacement nomenclature is back.

 

Interesting to read how Ferrari tie the car up to WEC victories and the XX programmes. Bet that makes the latter group feel pretty special.
