My guess is that they're just a styling element that ties in with the way the bodywork 'folds' over the rear lights.

If I remember from the 458 reveal we had to wait a little for the first movie. They'll probably want to maximise exposure - this will buzz for a wile, then they can pump it back up again with a movie. If they throw it all at us in one go then they're old news with nothing left to feed us with.

Definitely isn't the best CG thats for sure. The top rear 3/4 frame looks like the front has a broken suspension with how the tire is angled!

I think the combination to go for will be a 458 Speciale and a 488 Challenge.
    Looking forward to that...

I'm sure I'll warm up to real world pics. These renders are always a poor representation of the real thing.

Really like the new rear end. Those side scoops are pretty heavy handed. That section of the car was the prettiest part of the 458 and I can't say I like that area from what's shown here.

Performance should be awesome. I do wonder if there won't be a number of people who'll hold on to and search for the 458 because it's the last of the n.a V8 Ferraris.

you speak my mind! it is strange to feel that way, it reminds me of the old gallardo a bit..i wish some of the stuff on the speciale front bumper would have been improved and carried over to this new model instead of this.

the side scope seems to lack a bit of elegance from the 3/4 view but it looks fine otherwise.
and it also seems like the design team narrowed the width of the canopy's rear end, more similar to laferrari. the rear end of the car is very nice improvement over both italia and speciale, also like how they push the lower side of the door in even more with a bigger side diffuser, very aggressive.

My first Impression is positive. What a great design Evolution on the 458.
I did not expect it to look that good.

As noted above, though, in my edit, the interiors are real.

Overall, I like it. As previously mentioned, to fully appreciate any new Ferrari it must be seen in person. I'm sure the new 488 looks fantastic on the road.

I wonder if the interior's been changed at all?

Ya know that big air scoop on the side may make the Spider look a bit bizarre. It might look great but it also might make it look way to complicated.

I like it! It will look even better in actual photographs. I like the name too!

My biggest concern is the sound. The interior is not a big departure and the two tone launch pics look like my old 458.

I'm in love with my Speciale but I look forward to the new 488 light weight as I will keep the Speciale till then.

Can't wait to drive the 488 though!

hate those side-scoops! on 308/288 they are stunning but these are just too big, front and rear is nice improvement but just because of turbo and those scoops i would go 458 all day!

Someone on Jalopcrap wrote that Speciale buyers should be upset now because this car is faster and better looking.

Of course they miss the point... but they also have a point.

I like it a lot. The scoops are quite prominent, but obviously are necessary and functional in a high performance turbo.

Is it just me or is ferrari releasing product at a record pace? seems like there is a new car almost every year... must be tough for owners to keep up.

Oh I know 10kg is meaningless, but I really had no idea what it weighed. Can never tell just by looking at a car how much it weighs. Cars rarely seem to get lighter these days, and some times (Corvette!) vastly heavier. Didn't hear anything about hybrid CF construction like the Huracan/R8, so you never know.
