I love it. It looks fantastic and I'm sure will be a blast to drive. Can't imagine what the S version will be like.

It's a winner. Although they should have named it 498. And no need for the GTB. Will be interesting to see if they release a Spider soon (like they did with the 430).

Now the 458 depreciation *really* begins.

For me, I feel like this vehicle is really mimicking what happened with the 360>430 transition.

It's a significant jump in terms of the driving experience; however, its looks do suffer quite dramatically. The 360 and 458 were pretty cars to look at while the 430 and this are a bit off putting.

That said, at least the front view and rear views are executed nicely. No more nostrils!

Here is some info on the car I didn't see here yet in the thread.

Original Link: This Is The New Ferrari 488 GTB: 660 HP Of Turbocharged V8 Madness

As anticipated, Ferrari has unveiled its 458 Italia replacement - the all-new Ferrari 488 GTB. Forty years after the first-ever mid-mounted V8 model, the 308 GTB, comes the first turbocharged variant. The latest Gran Turismo Berlinetta gets the ‘488’ element of its name from its eight cylinders that each boast a 488 cc capacity. The powerplant is a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 660 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque. That’s a significant jump from the 458’s 562 hp and even the 458 Speciale’s 597 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque.

That monstrous torque figure also eclipses the 509 lb-ft generated by the Ferrari F12’s naturally aspirated V12. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic box derived from the 458 featuring a Variable Torque Management system. Gear ratios, say Ferrari, have been tuned to “deliver incredibly progressive acceleration when the driver floors the throttle.” The Ferrari 488 GTB goes from 0-62 mph in 3.0 seconds, 0-124 mph in 8.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 208 mph. It also lapped the Fiorano test track in 1 min 23 sec, two seconds faster than the 458 and half-a-second quicker than the Speciale. Engineers have perfected the new supercar’s soundtrack to be “full, clear and totally distinctive.”

As well as being more potent, the new V8 turbo is also more economical than the Italia, delivering 26.8 mpg, helped in part by Ferrari’s HELE stop-start system that features on the car. Styled at the Ferrari Styling Center, the 488 GTB has very similar dimensions to the 458 and weighs just 1,370 kg. It comes with a host of new aerodynamic features, the most obvious of which is the ‘blown’ spoiler coupled with active aeros at the back, which help increase downforce by 50%. Also note the double front spoiler, a large front air intake that nods to the 308 GTB, newly styled lights, a diffuser sporting active flaps, an aerodynamic underbody with “vortex generators,” and newly positioned exhaust flaps.

Ferrari claims the 488 GTB to be “the most responsive production model there is,” with track car response times, thanks to new subsystems and electronic controls, while “greater longitudinal acceleration out of corners” is provided by the new Side Slip Control 2 (SSC2) system that now controls the active dampers as well as the E-Diff and F1-Trac. Inside the cabin boasts new switchgear, instrument panel and air vents, the infotainment system receives a new interface and the multi-function steering wheel is unchanged. We can’t wait to see the Ferrari 488 GTB in Geneva, from where we’ll bring you live shots next month.

I think the b-pillar and door were photshopped too close to the scoop. Scoop shouldn't look different in the door. Slight adjustment to Photoshop required - easy for me to say, LOL.

Woow, that looks a million times better than the 458. Even the laferrari sucks compared with it. Fantastic

Much better! Still horribly 'boxy' at the front, but better.

    I feel the same way.

But, whats really funny... if a "Tuner" put a side intake like this on a 458 six months ago, the entire F-chat membership would have been up in arms about how they ruined the flowing lines of the beautiful 458. ;)

488 looks like its trying too hard with the big split intake (reminds me of Lambo in the 80's and 90's when they just kept adding more fins and vents to their cars)... where-as Ford's new super-car looks like they swung for a home run in comparison! (From a media PR perspective, Ford took all the air out of the room for both the new NSX and the 488 this month. Bet no one saw that coming?)

And sorry about the scoop. I tried to do something with it but it made it even worse. It would need a few more hours at photoshop or better remake it from scratch, I'm sure someone else will make it later on.

No it wasn't, it was billed as 'the car they wanted to build in the first place', which was, frankly, nonsense. I suppose I can understand them saying this (manufacturers have to sell the new car) but according to them 650 was not a facelift but a completely new model, which was far too early, and if it was indeed a facelift then why was it needed - the 458 didn't have one? It was not a 'classy' move in the same way that the 488 is - sensible and respectful development of the previous car and on just the right timescale.

The 488 has done nothing to invalidate or diminish the old car, instead, it is an updated design that stands as a model in its own right, embracing the necessary restriction placed on it by the era in which it will be launched (CO2 etc.), leaving prospective owners to feel that it will be every bit as brilliant as what has gone before but also leaving those (and they will undoubtedly exist) who prefer to stay with the old n/a 458 a while longer to continue to enjoy a brilliant car whose reputation has been enhanced or reinforced by its successor. It's classy however you look at it.

I'm not knocking Mac or even Lambo (whose Huracan replacement for the Gallardo could be seen as a bit unambitious) merely saying that I think Ferrari have really got great momentum and have a real handle on what they need to do when it comes to product development and lifecycle. I think it's to be expected because both Mac and Audi-owned Lambo (the two key competitors) are much younger.

Whether it continues ad infinitum is another debatable point - everyone on the top perch is a target for all the others and both McLaren and Audi/Lambo are formidable competitors, but IMV the top perch is exactly where Ferrari are right now.

I never stated that prices would go down.Bob had mentioned a possible 50k jump
I merely said it would be interesting to see how they price it considering the Euro drop

The 458 and Speciale look so obsolete now. This is a homerun

Yes we know that is how the car will look, but that not what was being discussed.

Love the 488. Looks, performance. Ferrari nailed it. Still love the 458 but they took the car where it needed to go next. Well done.

And to a certain extent, being CGI does affect how the car looks because they lower it and push the wheels out. I've not seen a single picture of the LaF that looks as good as the first CGI's, for example.

From a Speciale owner: I am not disappointed that this car is faster or prettier. I can't wait to own a 488 GTB someday. It will look great next to my Speciale. :) I also know, no Scuderia owners that still have their cars were sad when then 458 came out... nor were they sad when the Speciale was released. So... to the Jalopnik guy who made that comment... you sir, got it wrong.
