Too much emotion in your post. Most people will dump the 458 as soon as they can get the next one. The only reason V8 Ferraris don't fall by the wayside even quicker when a new one comes out is because they don't make them quick enough. There are already tons of people calling it old and obsolete and the 488 way better looking. What you perceive as a graceful departure and a classy exit from the 458 is a mirage propped up by artificially constrained supply in the NA market. The vast majority of people just want new **** that's cream of the crop, and they want to be first to have it. As long as it looks half-way decent, they're sold. There's already a line-up on here for it and no one has ever even driven the car or seen it in person. There are probably thousands of deposits placed for it a year before it came out. It's just business as usual for V8 Ferraris.
If the doors butterfly it is going to be one of the best.. And the slogan "wordsarenotenough" will be an understatement... I hope
except speciale this is first car under Sergio M. I think he may give green light to stuff that Luca never did. Not in a bad way to be clear. Design is more technical and less poetry.
Is it just me or is anyone else totally falling in love with the 488? Its like the pretty girl whom you promised there cant be anyone who can match you ever(458) and then the 488 comes in.Even the Ford GT took some 'Mental Steering' to start to like it.But my god the 488 looks flawlessly good! About the 'Blown Spoiler',this is what i think.The side intake where the intake is split into two,one part goes through the body and exits just below the spoiler.Probably this is expanding air and create a low pressure to create downforce without the spoiler creating drag.Makes sense? Total hogwash?
I like the Italia/Speciale more, both esthetically and because of the NA engine. (Until they totally kill off lag with electric supplementation I'll remain an NA fan.)
488 refers to cc per cylinder. 3902/8= 487.75 Round up and thats 488. Im a genius... I like the new car. Can't wait to have one... and yes.. deposit down months ago. Guess I'm a fan boy.
Who cares what engine it is? We already heard the rumblings of the 488 and, surprise surprise, it's sounds just like a V8 TT. $400K gets you a hell of a lot more for your money at Ford than Ferrari. If the FGT were had a horse badge and an electric motor, it would cost you $1.5M...
What I like: 1. The name 488, back to traditional unitary displacement. Even if it is a bit forced: it was the only way possible to use a 3 figure number higher than 458. The GTB part, though, seems void. 2. The rear: amazing, any way you approach it. Very futuristic lines and rearlights. However, the lower diffuser & foglight part is a bit bland and predictable, too. What I don't like: 1. The side intakes, big time scallop in what was a lovely, near perfect, waist line on the 458. The whole area is now too busy to the eye. Agree it will need a black mesh grille or at least a black splitter. 2. Please, please terminate daytona-style seats, they simply clash with these futuristic cabin designs. Oddly enough, I like diamond-style but find it more neutral, fits more modern designs. 3. I'm also tired that fronts always have to be reminiscent of F1 noses and/or wings. I like the front treatment except for the double vertical pillars/"wing" attachments. All in all, it's a nice effort, I could have waited more, didn't need this yet with the Speciale so fresh, but I guess the industry is self-hurrying.
I also wonder this. I see it as way less of a change than the 360 -> 430. If it didn't have a new engine, I'd almost call it a facelift. While I may not be a diehard F fan, I do consider myself pretty in-tune with modern cars. I couldn't even tell if the lights in the front were new. I had to pull up images of both to compare some of the difference better. It's way too subtle too last another 6 years IMO. Interior looks almost identical aside from a few refined shapes.

First, i love the name, teh gtb is always good on a Ferrari...de design is ok, of course it isn´t as spectacular as the 458 when it apeared, now it´s more iof an evolution....i'm not sure but probably the 458 is the best looking oif both, but the 488 is also a stunner (that side intake is a bit big)...but i'm sure once someone starts to drive it we will only hear wonders about it!!
Yes, I can agree with that. I'm not sure why my quote and your post are at odds? I'm not suggesting there won't be many 458 owners wanting to move to the new car, in fact, I think the point I'm making is that they will do exactly that - in hordes. The 458 will be left to take its place among the Ferrari greats and will always remain a groundbreaking and beautiful car. And that's as it should be IMV.
IMO I like it but not as much as the 458. It has more angles and sharpened creases that make for drama. A couple of the creases seem just a bit too busy. I do like the front much more than La.F But the 458 looks like someone dropped aluminum on a frame and pulled on both ends to stretch it. The swoops and curves are still luscious. They will sell all they can make. If it didn't have TT I would get one.
Just saw the photos...I am in. Love the front and rear far more than my current 458. Air intakes though, well, not so much. The increase in power...hot damn. Bring it.
I find it all a little over done , probably because the 458 was so elegant. however, being more extreme will also be a differentiating factor Vs the Hurricane and 650S. The rear vents would look good back in the 80's. It will grow on me for sure. Public road drivers can never come close to using the performance, but assuming the normal Ferrari trick of bettering the last best thing, being better than a Speciale will be an automotive miracle. Will go like stink of that there is no doubt. Will make huge noise. Just need to see if the sound is good. I really did not like the video example. Will already be sold out for next 12 months.
How do you figure? They've done this before, yet there is no indication of what you say. 550, 348, 360... did those really see any great send off or have any staying power? I don't really see how they've done right by the 458 with the 488. I mean, I don't think they've done wrong by it, but I also don't think it's anything now other than "the old model." I don't see anything really special about this transition compared to any other manufacturer. 458 -> 488 == LP560 -> Huracan
I love that the triangular side intake is coming back! And no 'eyelash' grilles, which I hated the look of. But I'd make the winglet inside black or matte CF. Also the vertical parts of the nose. Nothing a little wrap couldn't fix. Like this: Image Unavailable, Please Login
