Some of you may know that I (along with many others here) have been looking for a GTB for a while and recently came across the opportunity to purchase the following:

    1995 F355 GTB 6MT
    Red/Tan
    <35K miles
    Valve guides done
    Stickies done
Major likely needed in the next 1-2 yrs (or sooner)
Lots of service records for everything worked on
    Clean car overall

Unlike several others, I'm not really interested in a Red exterior car (I know, resale red!), but am being told by my friends that I should highly consider this GTB given how hard it is to find one.

So, my question to the enthusiasts here, what's the possibility and interest of any existing owner wanting to trade for a Red/Tan GTB 6MT for their 6MT GTB that's not Red?

We can exchange dollars one way or the other depending on miles/condition/etc.

I haven't purchased the car yet, but wanted to get some thoughts around if this is a terrible idea or something worth considering?

As for colors, I open to (in no particular order):

    Black
    Gray/Gunmetal
    Silver
    Blue
White (but that's never going to happen)

Thoughts? What would you guys do? (And if you're potential GTB buyer, don't say "pass on it and let me buy it!" :))

Oh man, you just sent a few guys into convulsions!! ;)

If you're ok with driving/enjoying the car for a while until something comes along than you may be able to eventually work out a trade but to buy it and trade immediately would be difficult I think.

Buy it - These will not be around in that config much longer. Drive it. Then decide. Red has grown on me - and I thought it would not. You are not going to find as many '95's in a Berlinetta in those colors.

    Haha, thanks.

That car is awesome, but I wish it were 6MT!

Yeah, you have a good point, however, I wanted to see if there was anyone who ever regretted not getting a Red/Tan GTB 6MT and decided re-painting their entire car was too much work. :)

Buy it! The red will probably grow on you and you will probably find someone to trade with eventually if you keep looking.

Buy it and put a wrap on it in the color of your choice.

If you ever want to sell it, the next owner has the option to peel the wrap off and reveal the unperturbed resale red original paintwork.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I doubt a quick trade opportunity will be easy to find. I can imagine a typical F355 seller wanting to move to a different model. There are exceptions, as clearly evident in this forum.

Still, I say grab the car. You will have an F355 to drive while you casually continue looking for a more preferable colour. Or, the red could grow on you as some have said. You cannot possibly lose much money selling a Rosso Corsa Berlinetta as long as the condition isn't bad.

I could tell you're not a red car guy just by our short time together showing you my F355, and finding a trader is a very, very hopeful prospect. Spring should bring a lot more buying options! Alternatively, if this one is really, really great then buy it and paint it black.

Easier said than done, right? ;)

Good luck my man, I'm sure a great car is just around the corner for you!!

Stay the course. Get what you really want unless you can flip the red car for a short term upside.
