I believe GTS' s were really available until 1978. But I could be wrong.

No - you are right. GTS didn't come out until 78

    Patrick,

Exactly 106 GTSs (carbed, of course) were built by the factory in the last three months of 1977 (this according to factory figures). Most, if not all, these cars were US market models and accordingly sent to the United States.
Of course, taking into account the time needed to put these cars on ships, crossing the Atlantic, clearing customs, etc...it could well be that none was actually registered on American roads before 1978.
In Europe, a 1977 built GTS is rarer than hen's teeth; but it exists...

By 1983, at least, that only took about 3 weeks.

Well, that leaves us then with a theoretical possibility that "one - or two - got away", and that there is actually a carbed 1977 GTS registered in the last weeks, or days, of 1977 in the USA...

I agree that is definitely possible and you probably have forgotten more about these cars than I know, but a car built that late in the year and sold here would still likely be titled as a 1978. There could, of course, be exceptions.

Ah, yes, true: I always forget about the title. Then, again, to go back to the title of the topic: not only a 1977 build car, but a WHITE one at that...hmmm?
