First it was $263K was a disappointment. They sell for more than that in Europe. It appears that it is indeed the high water mark. Then two weeks later it's soon to be half a mil. Anyone for 1 mil by spring?
Just an FYI, while there certainly were Boras built in 1978, all were officially titled as 1977 model year cars.
In the US I know of sales in mid 2014 in the mid $150ks for cars that needed repaint and other minor things. You can also use the comp at Gullwing with significant needs. A 1 car should easily be over $200K. With 564 +/- cars the sales comps are limited but they are there. The car at Bonhams was a total redo at $132K.

Fantasy junction has had 2 bora on there upcoming inventory list for months. Anyone have any info on these cars?
I guess that would be yet another indication of a lack of supply? It wouldn't surprise me terribly that we'll see more really nice ones for sale by August here in the USA. I saw several premium ones at Concourso in 2012. IMO they were all a bit better, more original, than the one that just sold at Gooding and that was a very nice car.
Bob, Interesting observation. Since you saw - judged my car at Pocono, what's your honest opinion of mine in comparison?
Yours is not a #1 car but I think you know that. It would have to be fully restored to be that. So a very nice driver and no I have no idea what that is worth now probably too much to make it worthwhile to invest more in the car except for your own enjoyment. Drive it and enjoy it as it is since I didn't really spot any enormous "needs" and you did take first place after all! All three Boras there that day (a new record for that event) were nice cars. Your car was more correct than the Gooding one. Correcting that one doesn't seem all that hard from what I saw and maybe the guy liked his changes? The cars at Concourso are at another level of fit and finish in a lot of cases than the Maseratis at Le Belle Macchine. Blakes cars being the exceptions in the vintage ones. It wasn't always that way. People have been upgrading Maseratis for a number of years now not just in the last two years so maybe Maserati's day IS finally arriving? One mil baby! One mil ...
Bob, Thanks for the candid response. I know the car is not a #1 and agree with your assessment. This winter I plan to have some minor housekeeping work done. Rocker panels refinished factory black, stainless roof cleaned - brushed, perhaps some paint correction & detail. Goal is enhance the fit and finish while trying to preserve the originality.
You and every other Bora owner on the planet! LOL We can dream but just so long as we realize it is just that.
I received an email today from Fantasy Junction about a new listing ('59 Ferrari California LWB) and noticed that on their "pending incoming inventory" side of the page, 1 of the 2 Bora's they were expecting is already listed as SOLD. Anyone know anything about this car? I had been curiously expecting their listing to see the details and asking price.

The Espada sold for $68 plus 12% auction commission and plus 9% tax. While the Bora was a pretty nice car it was nowhere near a #2 car. It had been repainted and the new paint was not that great. some paint on the trim orange peel and some poor prepping of the car. the engine did not run that great but some friends of mine that drove it said it ran very well and they had just run it and let it idle for 1/2 hr plus which was causing it to run rough. While the interior was OK it needed some repairs.
I spoke to the mechanic hired by the auction company, on Wed., at the site. He said that he had just finished tuning it, replacing plugs, etc., so maybe what Gene said was before Wed?
Terrible pictures on the Espada but to me it looks like that may have been one hell of a buy right now. I suspect we'll be seeing that car again soon all cleaned up for maybe twice that amount. Gene, where exactly was this? I'm in Lodi a lot, my mother in law lives there, so it kind of surprised me. My first thought was Doak Bentz but he has a different Bora as well as a Khamsin. A lot of cars actually. Except for the Bora it seems like these cars were a bargain?
My friend was there to bid in person for me. He sent me multiple videos of the Bora being started and running. I'm not sure most would agree it was "tuned" at all, it sounded pretty terrible to me, but maybe it just needed to be driven and the cobwebs cleared out. I hope whoever bought it is an end user, that car could get you into hot water if the intention is a quick flip...
Looks like Gooding & Company has yet another Bora on their lots for the upcoming Amelia auction. Black US #688 with an estimate of $225-$275k. That sale will be of interest.
Bob this was just north of Lodi it was an estate auction of Carl Wishek in Acampo. Doak Bentz was a very good friend of Carl's and knew the cars very well. I actually started the Bora Sat am but as we all know they all run a little rough until they warm up and get cleaned out.

That's the thing about this market. Just when you think you know the market value, you don't. "Except for the Bora it seems like these cars were a bargain"? Don't forget, 12% premium, 2% internet bidding fee, and CA sales tax approx. 9%. I was bidding on the Espada up to the very end, but at $69k, that would be $85k, all in.
