Does anyone have any of the Real ones stashed? Really just wondering. Since they are NLA and the ones that are available are junk. I know Ricambi america won't even stick the counterfeit part. So I assume what everyone else has is the fake ones. Update to show it On the 355 it's the timing Image Unavailable, Please Login
I spent a good part of 2 months hunting these down. I believe production was stopped sometime in 2010. A few dealers bought most of the old stock and they seem depleted. I got an alternative bearing. INA 5204 NPPU which is a (double row, double seal bearing). The double row was an interesting thing to me because I believe it would provide better an upgrade in this application were radial loads are high. It was a very close fit at 52mm OD but a width of 20.6mm (Stock is an unpopular 19mm). I tried fitting this bearing and it would require some machining of the snap clips or perhaps the bearing itself. That being said, what was more of an issue was that diameter on the stock ones is on the high side of 52mm (52.25) were this one was closer to 51.95. That variance alone gave a loose fit in the timing case. I have installed the Ferrari sourced bearings in the interim and waiting on Hill Engineering to complete the bearings they are manufacturing sometimes this spring. hope this helps Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What does it do and what did it come off of. Your chance of finding one just from the part number are nil to minus nil. These bearings were not used for just one application but if people knew what it does they mite go look at some other applications and have one
Yes I understand that it could cross reference to other part number. This is the ferrari part number, it is used on multiple vehicles, It has been talked about quite a bit. But that's why I posted in parts wanted. Because if someone has some for a desent price Id grab them. # 7 on this parts breakdown from a 355. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not sure where your getting that info that These are NLA From Ferrari I as a Main dealer in the UK Have just checked the Ferrari Factory stock and they have over 2000 Of these bearings in stock I my self have 8 in stock at present
The problem isn't so much if they are in stock or not. It's that the current supply of bearings are of unknown origin and quality. They bear no markings on the outside of any kind and some have had documented, early failures. This is the reason Ricambi does not stock them. What the OP is asking is whether someone has stock of the original, SKF branded bearing.
This has become a major issue given the prices of Ferrari parts. The Chinese seem to be the primary culprits. Even Hill Engineering parts, at one time, were being counterfeited, albeit at a fairly small degree. Hence, their new packaging. Daniel at Ricambi should be highly commended for his scrutiny and refusal to stock any questionable parts.
They are stamped 170787 on the outer race, and have no other markings in accordance with (BICC) agreed upon standards. Sadly, a whole bunch of bearings now coming from Ferrari are marked this way, indicating a conscious split from SKF and an attempt to private-label manufacturer them from who-knows-where. I'd rather sell -0- for twenty years than have one of those go to a customer's car. They spew more grease than a broken fryer at McDonalds. The assembly tolerances are looser than a 2-bit hooker from the Wild West.
I bought my Hill Engineering bearings from Daniel at Ricambi and they looked great. I didn't even want to put them in the car they looked so good.....LOL. Every set comes with their own serial number and box with a hologram sticker that shows it's authentic. Buy them from Daniel and don't worry about it anymore. I sleep much better at night.
SKF is aware of the problem and don't really care anymore. It is difficult for them to enforce and Ferrari has decided to go with another manufacturer for their new stock. They lost the Ferrari business to cheap Chinese junk. At least that's what I understood from a relative who works for SKF here in Canada.
Doesn't hurt to check if you have the SKF bearing number. I deal with them semi-frequently. If you have the part number they can do a quick search and if they no longer produce the bearing, they can suggest the next best thing. I have had to order bearings on 40 year old pumps before.
I think the original though was a two part bearing and the new Hill Engneering bearings are single. Much better design in my opinion but if you really NEED to source them I guess you could. Can anyone post the SKF part number? PS - My information is 2 years old, as I went crazy trying to decide which way to go wen I did my major. Cheers, Marlon
Not the same bearings, your talking about the bearings the timing belts ride on. The bearing I'm talking about are in the photo I posted. Two very different bearings. Check the parts break down.
Yes as it has been stated the bearings in the system now are inferior, fake, junk, garbage bearings, That ferrari is ok with for some reason. So the 2000 or so in the system are junk. Some might be fine but I have seen multie on here that have failed quickly after service. And frankly I'd rather keep my original ones installed vs swaping in ones that have been known to fail very fastand very badly. I'd rather not have to drop my engine so soon after doing so much work.
Hi I have a huge warehouse near me that does bearings such as SKF please Pm all numbers off them and I will visit them Tmr also they are very reasonable on prices , Regards Alex
