I've got a story for you.

Earlier today I had the chance to go to a fellow's garage here in Phoenix and talk about running a story about him and his car collection. He is an Ex-Baja 1000 and SCCA racer that made a name for himself back in the 1980s. Today he has given up racing Porsches and Toyota trucks and gone to the slow crap cars that have no torque. His car collection is full of PRE-1915 cars. Not pre-war, pre-1915. He went on to tell me the thrill it is to race his 1907 Renault or his 1898 Jeaperin. Yes that is 18 as the first two digits.

He has won MORE revival races in turn of the century cars than anyone else alive and has this to say about all these cars we think are all crap because they don't have enough torque. Driving a 1904 Mitchell-Lewis at 35 Mph is MORE thrilling than any other car you, me, or anyone else in this sub-forum has ever owned.

So....Does the CS lack torque compared to "todays" standard? Sure. But what about everything else it has to offer? So sorry, it's not crap. Not today, not tomorrow.

btw I'll be doing a feature article on him in my soon to be released magazine.

Huh? Crap? Tell that to the Scuds I've passed on track. I've never quite understood comments like this.

All of these cars have more than enough ability to lose our collective driving privileges.

Ron..... Special will look just right over the CS!

Ehhhh 7k seems exaggerated. I tell people to just keep the tach pointed up or to the right on high revving motors ; )

No one is racing these things. Seems almost irrelevant to me which is faster. Even if you track it, so what if a faster car passes you on a straight? Be as good as you can be in the given car. That should be the reward IMHO. A good driver in a CS will obliterate a mediocre driver in a Scud.

CS also sounds better to my ear than the Scud. But that is splitting hairs because they are both major boner material.

I would opt for the 348 Competizione and 458 Speciale.

Since I would consider the 348C to be the true grandfather of the special edition modern V8s, and the OP did not specify that this is US market only :D

I run substantially quicker than a 650s (full seconds) at my local 1.68m track. That doesn't mean the Scud is actually faster than the 650s (it isn't), it means I'm a better driver.

Any comparison that doesn't involve the same driver and track is irrelevant other than to highlight the fact that the biggest difference is usually the guy behind the wheel.

Seems to me you just lack the skills to drive a car with fewer torque.

I'm not under any illusions that I think the Stradale is faster than a Scuderia (it is not), but to call it crap because it doesn't have as much torque isn't very insightful.

Going on looks and excitement alone, I would say CS and then maybe one more CS.

    +1

I think the only things I'd do to a CS is to fit it with Scuderia gearbox software + pump, 100 cell cats + titanium exhaust, 599 AFMs and a remap similar to trevs car (allows to 9500 rpm). These mods are easily reversable and just will give it the kick to hang with Scuderia's just a bit better ;).

But lets get back to reality Folks, we have a claim that a CS is faster than a SCUD which is obviously untrue at any RPM, can we please accept the facts of the situation ?

You're really getting boring posting this video over and over again!
In a straight line the Scud is always faster than a CS, it would be a pretty big laugh if it wasn't! ;)
Put two good drivers in a CS and Scud on a track with lots of corners, you would be surprised how close it would get! ;)

This should settle the dispute. The Stig was Ben Collins who drove both of these cars on top gear look at the times posted around their short technical track that dosent really have the space to let the Scud stretch it's legs.

So only 2.6 seconds slower for a crappy car with no torque? :D
    Exactly what i meant! ;)
Both lap times aren't even timed on the same day/track conditions ;)

I wonder what the lap time is for the Speciale ;) Even the normal 458 (1min19.1) was faster than the mighty Scud around the top gear track ;)

BTW: it's funny to see everytime a CS get's some raves in a thread, the Scud lovers try to prove their car is faster.
Yes, it is faster, just like the Speciale is faster than the Scud, but i don't think the OP's question was "Which is faster?" ;)
