My wife always tells me: if you buy a vintage Ferrari, you buy something like an investment so you can do it with my approval, but if you waste money into stupid things, you just waste your money.

She is 100% right, but despite that i like to waste some money in stupid things that remind my Ferrari.

I have Magnum P.I. car plate, Magnum P.I. cap, some old magazines, some 1:18 car models and so on.

Do you have or like some "stupid things" like that? Which ones?

I'm interested because i want to widen my "stupid things" collection... ;)

    ciao

    Ciao Alberto,

I have more than I can count, filling almost one entire room in the basement (including the Robin Masters number plate, but excluding your magazine with the nice girls).

As time goes by, you will learn how to transport this stuff into the house or the garage, without your wife noticing.

    Completely stupid, as you say!

    Alberto,
If you are willing to clean up your collection from time to time, even the most stupid things can be an investment.
I myself put things on ebay from time to time, which got boring for me. And each time I got a profit out of those transactions.
Provided you're willing to part with a pile of 'stupid things' :)
Boring things go, new things come. More interesting for me.

    Best Regards
    Martin

Ferhoarder- pronounced Fer-whore-der, a syndrome characterized by obsessive desires to buy things related to or manufactured by Ferrari. Just as importantly collecting as many varied objects and displaying them together seems to be an important aspect of this syndrome. Most commonly found in males but not necessarily limited to gender. Although not fatal this condition can cause
    -ridiculous arguments with spouse
    - chronic light wallet
    - loss of living space
    - obsessive collection reorganizing
    - feelings of guilt
    - feelings of "do I have a problem?
Treatment: it is recommended that you seek comfort with fellow Ferhoarders. Mutual reassurance not only helps but encourages continued fun collecting and spending money on something that brings you pleasure.

Collecting Ferrari memorabilia is definitely not stupid. I know people who collect giraffes, teapots, pigs, etc.

Of course you can take any collection to the extreme (ie. having to build a large addition onto the house to store it, for example).

Heck, I'm now just getting to narrowing down my "Collecting" to just Ferrari and Porsche memorabilia. Selling off a good collection of diecasts, car parts, etc. that I have had for a few decades. My wife is good with that for now.....

I don't have much memorabilia but was pretty bad at hoarding parts both new and used. Well OK I have a few hats. And maybe 4-5 shirts. And probably a few models.

Oh Jesus H Christ, I'm just as bad as the rest of you. :)

And who else here keeps old parts off the car like me? I have a couple boxes of new parts and who knows how many old parts.

Although I did actually sell my old exhaust not long ago. To another f-chatter who now probably still has one spare one sitting in HIS garage. ;)

Don't drag us ALL into it. Not all of us collect. I, for example, only have a few hats, a couple of shirts, a cool key ring, Hot Wheels models, some books, a, a, ... err, never mind.

I will admit to keeping old parts. Don't ask me to explain why I have a box of old used hoses. On the car are modern matrix type cats, but I keep original heavy-as-a-sand-bag pellet-filled type in the garage rafters just because they have Ferrari stamped on them. Someday they will fall on my head or, worse yet, the car.

I am always on the look out for unique stuff but alas some feeling of sensibility keeps most items out of my home.

On the other hand, I do have various parts on display. One fun one is a belt bearing that I cut open to reveal the dual race. It is cool looking and fun to play with when on the phone. My son has a another bearing on his desk too. There are also some pieces of piston around too, very rare.

Maybe we all need doctors :)

Yes, I have a garage of parts, old and new. I think I have two radiators, two steering racks (both awaiting rebuild), suspension parts, a new set of rear lights, two spare bumpers... lots of other new parts waiting "the restoration" and lots of old parts that have been renewed in the last few years and I just don't throw out.

Inside the house: New euro bumper from Maranello Parts still in it box - being used as a coat stand in my office, hung with my Puma Scuderia Ferrari soft shell jacket, a 308 painting, a wall relief of Pista di Fiorano, a lot of Ferrari books plus Cavallinos and Forzas in the drawers. There is a lot more I'm afraid... Scuderia Collection headphones, 1:43 cars, photos of my car, a framed Certificato di Identificazione, a banner, more clothes... I'd better stop there :)
