    Hey Jim.

I don't know the results. But if they are what you and others indicating, you would be right.

Traction and torque, are important coming out of turns. And good braking only adds to this.

They key is proper development, as you're seemingly doing with your project, and less posturing.

With brake regen and no turbo lag to fill I wouldn't bet against the 918 even on the distance. The Laferrari is even more likely able to keep producing the same laptimes over and over

The P1 wastes energy even to simulate a diff with its brakes

Here's a change in direction in the constant nattering between P1 vs 918 - I suspect that Jaguar will release its C-X75 after all. It is due be part of the next James Bond movie (see link below).

I doubt Jaguar would allow it to be in the movie without releasing it to the public. I suspect that Jaguar was watching the sales of the three current hyper cars and was surprised at how strong the market for these ultra expensive cars was - even the 918 sold out all of its massive 918 allotment. And I understand the secondary market is quite strong for all three.

Jaguar had pulled the plug on the project as they were nervous that this niche market was too saturated to support the sale of its car, but looks like it may be reconsidering now (conjecture on my part only). I would love to see it come to life, I think it is the most elegant looking of the hypercars.

    Love the CX-75 too.
Not sure how reliable is a supercharged / turbocharged 1.6L engine pumping out 500hp, paired with 400 electric hp. Sounds highly unreliable to me, but very fun :)

    Hey Jim.

My guess is also (if what you and others are indicating are true), driven hard by the likes of Pobst, the McLaren batteries didn't hold up to well.

So far, the McLaren has mainly been in "friendly" British hands, who were loathe to really give us all the information (though we know there were many questions, that weren't always fully or properly address, if brought up at all).

During the Evo test, some here reported that Jethro confided to them how it's battery wasn't so great in Evo's more friendlier test (compared to a guy like Pobst on a track, who's presumably going to challenge or deplete your battery). The difference with Porsche?...It was on their "Hot Lap Mode". McLaren, would have problems on their standard mode (I'm presuming), which is really Porsche's "Race Mode", which shouldn't tap out (while "only" being 3-5 secs slower on The Ring). That's the difference.

I guess we'll all see, find out soon enough?

If the rumored 0.8s split is true, than it doesn't really matter - on this track and on this partucular day 918 beat P1 which was running stickier rubber(Trofeo R) - what would be the difference with lesser Pirellis? Probably over 1.5s, so even considering battery depletion, on similar rubber, P1 doesn't stand a chance.

With Trofeo R you'd be losing time over a stint of 10-15 fast laps simply due to tire wear - so, again, P1 stands little chances of ever catching the 918 on Laguna seca even if it loses less time because it is less dependant on battery power.

Apparently that's not true either. There was apparently something like a .3s difference between laps 2 and 15 on the P1 of the Trofeos. They didn't use a ton of tires either. They had one extra set of tires and wheels for the P1 and the second set was no different.

Sounds like a lot of these P1 tire rumors aren't holding true. Should be a good and informative article when it comes out. Not sure when that it. BTW, I'm only getting this info from the ML board from Treynor. Was his car after all.

Yep, seems as though Mclaren set the Trofeos at too high a pressure at Anglesey which caused the rapid deterioration.

Worth remembering however that this was a non Weissach Pack 918 that the P1 was up against.

Why?, they just want exposure for the car.

Pretty sure they won't be selling them.

I would think that Jaguar would only want to show a car that it intended to sell - why would they want exposure for a car they will never produce? That makes no sense to me. If they were dead set on not producing this car in the future, I would expect that they would have to put in an existing production car (or future production car) instead.

Aston Martin will have the DB10 in the movie, I expect one for the general public in the not too distant future.

The car in the movie will have Jaguar's conventional V8 and there won't be a production version.

Hahahaha, man you crack me up.

918s are literally sitting on dealer lots. Remember, the 918 only "sold out" because Porsche forced their dealers to purchase cars. Here in New Orleans there are literally two cars sitting in the showroom, one owned by the dealer and another buy some guy who apparently doesn't care to come pick it up.

I'm quite certain you could buy at sticker, and likely get a discount (at least here in USA).

I know it is kinda offtopic here, but what do you think of the One:1 and the claims about aiming to shatter the Ring record?

Could this thing put its power down properly and do it? I honestly doubt it, but damn, its numbers are crazy...

My dealer, and other dealers in the local Los Angeles area, can't seem to find any 918s (at sticker) available for their customers. Perhaps you should help them out?

At one point, my local dealer had four 918s sitting in their showroom waiting for their customers to pick it up. So if your definition is of how well a car is selling by looking at how many "customers cars" are sitting at the showroom, then sure...the 918 is selling horribly, LOL!

    For? Why?

I have 2 Ferraris and the 918 waiting in the garage for me to get into and give me a smile on my face every time I drive them.

I am also contemplating Jim's SCG003, which btw in case you didn't know will be more track focus than the P1 in Race mode ever will be.

What do you have in yours to give you that smile on your face?

Who is the bitter one? :)

Testing away with our friends from Road and Track who are also shooting her for their May cover.

Car is fast and beautiful in her Geneva livery which Chassis 002 will also race in.

Personally I think that in road trim with 700hp from her road v6 weighing over 1000lb less
then any of these three she will be fast and nimble enough for most and very easily owner convertible for those who want to enter her in real races or go H2H with anything on the planet at a friendly track day with friends.

    Completely incorrect:

    P1 vs 918 - Page 39 - McLaren Life

It was the 918's batteries that didn't hold up well because HL mode is a qualifying lap mode that depletes batteries too quick for sustained use:

    P1 vs 918 - Page 37 - McLaren Life

So basically, the 918 was faster for 2 laps and then slower than the P1 for 13 laps when HL mode usage could no longer be sustained. You're basically looking at a qualifying lap vs a race lap in both the Laguna Seca and Anglesey Coastal comparisons. Anglesey showed a different outcome because it has 2 fast corner, giving the P1 aero chance to work.

    As regard's Bovingdon's finding:

    P1 vs 918 - Page 41 - McLaren Life

Basically, as with most mag tester's, JB makes the mistake of running the tyres on cold street pressure rather than track pressure, hence the rapid deterioration.

At the tested pressures in the Laguna Seca test, the P1 had a larger contact patch, but the telemetry does not show the mid-corner lateral g advantage that you'd expect. Basically these are not off-the-shelf Trofeo Rs and MPSC2s but bespoke ones.

Also worth remembering that this non-WP 918 was a factory car and had all the lightweight mods of the WP and the P1 tested was a customer car with a lot of heavy options ticked wrt ICE and seats.
