Jon. I sincerely wish you a strong recovery.

My dad drove after his stroke...stubborn fighter pilot that he was...he did so even though he had a bilateral hemianopsia (blind on one side of both visual fields). That was a really bad idea. We tried to steal his keys, etc. He always found a way. He ran into a lot of garbage cans in our driveway, as well as some trees on occasion. You need all your vision to drive safely. You also need your balance. So some cerebellar strokes can cause problems with that. Other than that, strength is needed for steering, braking, shifting, etc. I hope it works for you. I also hope someone who manages it will let us know.

    Best!

A very good friend of mine had a stroke. It took awhile, but after recovery - you'd never know it happened. It's been a long road to recovery, and hard at times. But, you can do it.

As with anything - you have some motivation. Now - you just need to be determined to make that goal.

Godspeed Jon. Our family is pulling for you and wishing you a speedy recovery. If the first thing you do is jump on fchat wondering when you can get back on the road, I'd say your spirits are DEFINITELY intact, and that's the most important part. All the best to you.

You will get back to driving the 308.

    hi Jon,
I had a stroke in July 2013. It affected my left arm and leg and caused scatoma in my eyes (a partial loss of vision or blind spots)
The doctors told me not to drive, however didn't officially have my license revoked. I have since got my feeling back 100% in my limbs from exercise and activity. Eventually my sight improved enough for me to pass peripheral vision testing and am allowed to drive again.
My best advice to you would be to perform all of your recommended therapy and then some. Accept that your energy levels will be down, but don't give up and try to get back on the horse. The severity of your stroke was not indicated. I hope that it isn't too debilitating, as I wish you all the best with a speedy and successful recovery.

    cheers, Larry

    Dear Jon,
that fact that you're already back to fchat is indeed quite promising - strokes can be very different in origin and clinical appearance!
Being spezialized in the field, you may contact me for further information.
I'm wishing you all the best!

Be patient. I agree that your thinking about it is a good thing. I love just going for a ride in my car when my daughter drives.

Wish you the best to get back on the horse.

Mild stroke three years ago and compounded by a fall that left me totally paralysis for a while last June. Mostly recovered now. Driven in rehab. To recover as quick as possible. Now. Weak arms. A lot of trouble concentrating. A serious driving challenge. Tend to go to sleep after 150 miles. Knowing these limits I drive

Thanks Big Red. I appreciate the good will.
Well Jon, I put about 500 miles on my 308 last year and intend to drive it until I can't push the clutch in any longer. May have to switch to an automatic Ferrari. lol. If it wasn't for the cheesy tail lights on the 456, I would consider one of those. Perhaps a paddle shift Fcar ?

Rehab begins in the ER, and if you got good care you are well on your way. It will be a long and difficult road to being where you want to be. But you live in Mass, and long winters and difficult times are part of the toughness of northeasterners. The fact that you already care enough to come to FChat looking to return to driving means you have the will and desire. You will do fabulous.

Reading through the other notes here is great - strong people!

My best to you. My niece in Deadham was expecting another foot of snow last night, so stay tough with the weather and use that toughness to slowly rebuild from your cva.

    My best from Denver,

    Jonathan, RN
