    Yeah, these distortions are particularly prevalent in modern wing design / construction because of all the composite laminates and sandwich panels being used now.

    All these structures are somewhat anisotropic (some are highly anisotropic), and you get "odd" induced curvatures when they are deflected out-of-plane / out-of-shell.

    It's a really interesting photo Lou has there because these distortions are (likely) very small, and most of the time would probably be completely unnoticeable to the naked eye. But, the lighting, shade, and viewing angles at that particular moment are just about perfect for exaggerating and highlighting these features !

    Flew back to Atlanta tonight in the Cirrus! Didn't get the usual DIFFI2 arrival; instead got LGC ATL KPDK which allowed this great pic to be taken.

    I have to tell you guys that I don't have a plane and I'm not a pilot, but I love this thread. I really enjoy seeing what you guys actually see. On a commercial flight we just don't get the same view that you guys do from the front of the plane. Keep these pictures coming.

    If you ever want to go up, I'm sure a bunch of guys in the area would be glad to share the experience. I'd offer but I'm a bit of a hike from you since I'm based out of Caldwell Airport in NJ.

    I highly recommend you DO NOT take Maciej's recommendation and get up into the airs. The results are often VERY expensive and time consuming. He's trying to get you addicted!

    Ain't that the truth. For the first time a couple months ago I saw a local small airport offering a GroupOn/WagJag for flying lessons. It was SUPER cheap but I had to pass.

    The intention is exactly like you said. Once you get up there you simply get addicted.

    On a side note I was just thinking of my gramps and he would always joke his dream was to fly on a 747. It's the one plane really that has alluded me so far.

    We are just so good at instructions sometimes! I won't even though I have a few cool ones.

    Video of the flight with my father on his 80th birthday. He sure seems to be having fun. It's only his second flight in the Eagle. Last time we stayed above 1000 ft and also right side up.

    Haha. I guess I need to make my photo bucket 'only view one picture'. But yea, I used to be a prop maker in Hollywood. The Millennium Falcon is a little ongoing project at the moment. Its about half way painted. Some parts being printed in 3d etc. Then it will be an accurate filming miniature in the man cave.

    But dont dig too deep into my photobucket.......scary stuff in there.
