Friends, Just to protect you from loosing your time, replying to this new kid LMFAO... He is Mycroft from McLife, Emo from GCF and whatever... Biggest and blindest McLaren cultist ever. He lost his last 3 months writing complete bs everywhere on the net. Arguing with him is like doing it with a teen on Extasy. Just ignore or this thread will be 1400 pages in a week.
I think McLaren is just trying to build a big pyramid scheme. Before you know it they'll sell soap door to door and exchange secret handshakes.
I had great fun in my 12Cs, along with same in 650.... But do not understand the business plan. If there is one? McLaren lands £120m as 'Batmobile' P1 GTR supercar is launched - Business News - Business - The Independent
On a another topic, I think Mclaren is seriously not understanding the exotic/luxury market by not offering a competitive leasing/financing program here in the US. My local Bentley/Bugatti/Rolls Royce/Aston dealer tells me 90% of their customers lease the cars. 90%!!!
And some people complain about McLaren fans being defensive. A slower time means it lost I'm afraid. Yeah, the claim of stickier rubber is soon to be dispelled by the telemetry. Bespoke tyres != Standard tyres. The 458S on bespoke MPSC2 pulled 5-6% more lateral g than a Huracan on Trofeo Rs at Sachsenring when AutoBild tested them depsite the 458S running on a much colder track. The 918 also made 15% more lateral g than a GT3 with Sport Auto despite both using MPSC2s. People are making conclusions based on off-the-shelf tyre performance, which is like comparing 2 stock cars and then judging how two modified cars will perform - impossible because it depends on the mods. Why on Earth should Laguna Seca be suited to the P1? It has 3 40mph corners and 4 sub-60mph corners. The fastest corner being <80mph. Big Willow by comparison has no corners under 60mph, and 4 over 80mph, including 2 90+mph corners and 1 120+mph corner. That would suit a P1! The Porsche didn't win over 4 laps even, it's was 1.5s down on its best time by lap 3 and worse thereafter, the P1 did 15 laps within 0.3s of its best. Since when did Michelin produce a stickier tyre than its Cup tyre?
What wheels did the 918 in the Laguna test have on? Debacle with Evo? You mean MPSC2 vs PZCS, which only ever has one winner, the tester even says the MPSC2s are stickier in the video. The 918 was 0.2s faster on superior tyres in HL mode, which lasts <2 laps. On more comparable Trofeo Rs the P1 was 1.2s faster despite JB running the tyres at the wrong pressure, hence their rapid degradation. Non-British hands? You really think that made a difference? Evo is notoriously pro-Porsche, just look at their COTY winners. Porcshe has won more times than all the other manufacturers put together. Evo (magazine) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia McLarens have ironically been received better by magazines US. Forgive me but surely enthusiasts actually use these cars for 20-30 laps on track days, so how quick one lap can be done is less important than how quick 20 laps can be done. Not much point shooting off, doing one quick lap and then being passed on lap 4.
Its funny how a Mac cultist justifies losing. First it was "the stock Pirelli tires are crap, could have bought stickier all season radials from tire rack. Lets get 60 rated track tires and try again. Also, we won't allow Porsche to try again with its roof on and fresh road tires. Then we know the P1 is faster all around machine!!." Now, when Porsche is allowed to try again with fresh (road) tires (and roof on) against the P1 on track tires at Laguna, the P1 loses again. The excuse now is that Laguna Seca is not suited to the amazing P1 (even though R. Dennis said they could beat any car on any track). I am not making this up! Wow!
In F1 instead things are looking bright financially. Again no real need for sponsors! Bold! Formula 1 team title sponsors are history - McLaren's Ron Dennis - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com
"The loan is secured on all of McLarens intellectual property, equipment and real estate including its factory in Surrey." But look at what they had to put down to get it, IMV, can see why they cranked out 1400 650s last year, don't see why the loan though? the P1 should have been a good earner for them, imv......
Trofeo R is clearly stickier tyre than MPSC2... This has been proven plenty times already. 458S is a much more hardcore car than a standard Huracan, which is also heavier than 458S. Also, 458S was as per usual probably supported by Ferrari crew, ensuring optimal setup for Sachsenring and tyre pressure. It is only natural that 918 would pull more Gs than 991 on the same rubber. Just like Audi R8 will pull more Gs than a TT on a same rubber. Incorrect, and besides, 918 was driven exclusively in hot lap mode which will not produce optimal times over a longer stint.
But that would have meant only 500 cars to put down as security for the loan, ? IMV. Albeit I agree 500 would have been a much more manageable no, if you are building brand residual valve etc..... IMHO
Tread Wear ratings are BS even applied to off-the-shelf tyres and actual tread wear doesn't necessarily indicate grip anyway. Porsche is welcome to go back to Anglesey Coastal anytime they like. To me HL mode seems like a cynical feature that has little application besides generating better PR in magazine track tests, compounded by the fact that the 918 is AWD and magazines tend to test on shorter, slower tracks with lots of 2nd gear corners. On longer tracks like Portimao and Big Willow, the 918's times have been mediocre, only 2s faster than a 458S on a 2 minute track and only 2s faster than a Nismo GTR on a 1:25 lap respectively. Really all we're seeing is that AWD provides better traction in 2nd gear. Go figure.
That's the big problem, it can't be proven because there's no way of testing bespoke tyres, purpose built for a given car, against each other on the same car. All you can do is look at lateral g telemetry. Yes we know they're different cars but the likes of McLaren and Lamborghini have been in this game for a long time. The difference in suspension setup and chassis between them isn't going to explain away significant differences in lateral g. I also don't think Ferrari did turn up for that test. After HL depletes the battery, it's left in a situation where it can only use what it regenerates, which makes for a fairer comparison?
Hot Lap mode does exactly what it is called and designed for - provides extra power over a course of one or more laps(depending on circuit configuration, length and battery charge). McLaren doesn't have it because it doesn't have brake regen.
