Today driving my car to HomeDepot I stop in the parking area for an older gentleman (about 80) to walk in front of me heading into the store.

He looks at me, then walks halfway across, stops turns around and motions me to drive up to him.

    Me: Yes Sir?
<He slowly looks from the hood to the trunk>
    Him: What is that?
    Me: It's an 89 Ferrari 328
    Him: Is it fast?
Me: In 1989 it was fast
    Him: Is it fast?
    Me: Technology moves on

    <after a moment>

Him: Where do you keep it? In the Living Room? It's Beautiful!
Me: Just the garage but maybe I should!

<He smiles turns around and shuffles into Home Depot>

I've never told you my age.

OK, I have not aged well.

The Mask at one time had his Ferrari 'suit' on - http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/137167772-post30.html

I'd have thought that owning a Ferrari prevented you from doing any drugs (who can afford both?). Selling them? Well that's another matter.

    Funny you should mention this..

When I was at the barber getting my hair cut last, I was seated in waiting area wearing my cap. And this guy comes up to me..

Guy: "Do you have a Ferrari?"
Me: "Yes its the red one outside."
Guy: *pause* with a look of surprise and stunned.. "What model is it?"
me: "Its a 360.. its right outside"
Guy: "(kinda stammering)Well... er.. the reason I ask is so many people wear Ferrari clothing and don't have the car.."
    Me: *smiling*

Dude thought he had me as a poser in Ferrari gear and was going to call me out.. AND GOT CAUGHT! :)

LOL, good one Curt. I haven't had this happen to me yet, but I'm sure it'll happen eventually! I think Ferrari's merchandising business for fans of the brand and Scuderia is way, way, way larger than the road car business!

Something similar happened to me like a month ago, I stopped to put gas on my daily driver at the Shell gas station where I am a regular...a new guy was dispatching and saw my Ferrari jacket and in a very sarcastic tone asked me if my other car was a Ferrari...I just smiled and said yes it is...his reaction was priceless, he paused for a second, then he changed the tone and told me, "so you must be the guy with the red Ferrari that comes here and all the guys in the back talk about"...

While grouping with other owners for a club run, someone comes up to us and asks: "do you have to be part of the Mafia to own one?"

I replied: "Mobsters tend to not want to attract attention to themselves, so they usually drive SUVs or BMWs".

He sheepishly got back in his BMW 3 series and drove off. :)

I find this situation kinda common with the elderly guys. These old guys really respect the cars and see them for what they are. They don't shy away from showing their enthusiasm and joy of seeing a beautiful nice car. The 20-40 something bloke, tends to either be the super enthusiastic "expert" who apparently know everything and who's "buddy" has something better and faster, or it's the arse who has some kind of smart-guy attitude letting you know, that you're a cock for owning such a car and it's a P.O.S.

I was wearing a Classiche sweater when I went to the grocery. As I was checking out the clerk asked, "so what color is your Ferrari?" and sort of chuckled as she said it. I was caught off guard for a second and then replied, "well, two are red and one is grey." She looked a little shocked and stopped checking the groceries. Then she caught herself and said, "for real??" I said, "for real." And then my 7 year old just kind of smiled at her and grabbed our bag.

Awesome!!! Priceless!!! I keep a log of all the funny comments that I got in 3 years of ownership...they should include a "owner guide to common questions" included with the other manuals...

I need to admit that it took me a good 3-4 months to master my list of answers for all the questions that I get at gas stations, grocery stores, at work or at a traffic light...

"What kind of kit car is that?, it looks like a Ferrari"

After driving my Queen Mother into a parking lot at a winery -- "Your Corvette is beautiful"
My response-- "I have no Chevys"

But then again, I am continuously insulted when somebody refers to my Land Rover Defenders as "Jeeps"

It does seem to annoy people when you wear Ferrari gear. I have a great winter jacket that I wear when it's cold (so like 10 months of the year here), and I always get sarky comments from young blokes saying 'when will you get your Ferrari' as if to put me down, I just pull out the keys and tell me it just arrived in the car park. Makes them look really stupid to their friends

Haha - I could easily have been the 7 year old in a 40+ year ago enactment of the same story... but I'd have probably answered "Red, yellow, and primer."

IMHO, Mustang comments are entirely justified if offered by people of a certain age in reference to early 8 cylinder Ferraris (Dinos and 308s) which were commonly referred to as Mustangs by those who knew that, at the time, *real* Ferraris had 12.

Some years back (well OK many years ago!) I used to see a few small Fiats (500, 126, 128, etc) around with "my other car is a Ferrari" bumper stickers. I have to admit at the time I was sorely tempted to have a sticker printed up to read "My other car is a Fiat 500".

Its really fun when you own two Ferrari's and both have plate frames that say "my other car is a Ferrari".

not as awesome as it is to respond to the statement "hey that's a really nice Ferrari you have!"

    "Which one?" :)

I've been able to do this forever with Porsches.. not at a point with Ferrari yet...

Though I must admit a ferrari owner with a sticker "my other car is a pinto" does have some cache!

Not a ferrari owner..actually a lambo owner....but got a pretty crazy comment today.

I brought my lambo to my barbers about a month ago. We get to talking about it and in the middle of discussing the shades of yellow it comes in he just randomly throws out "well, you can't really afford that car." It was so random and out there I just ignored it and continued the conversation, but sat there in amazement that a collaborative verbal fart between this mans brain and mouth just occurred and pretty much insulted me.

"well, you can't really afford that car" That is funny. Now you know why he is cutting hair for a living (not that there is anything wrong with that).

    No tip either.

Which reminds me I need to get a "My other car is a Ferrari" plate holder for the 458. Classic.

Obviously Lambo owners are small tippers.

Dont think it was the tip as I previously gave 50% the time before...

This time I still tipped (25%) despite the odd comment
