This should inspire some great sarcastic writing in the press: "F1 Helmets Homologated and Frozen for 2015", "FIA to Consider Helmet Upgrades in 2017", "Ferrari Uses 50 Tokens so Vettel Can Wear New Lid in Monaco"...

no marussia, caterham and possibly Force India, and the FIA are worried about helmets. They stink.

Read it this morning and honestly thought ''F1 is in crisis mode, and THIS is one of their solutions?''.

The casual F1 fan has already left. Now many hardcore fans (the ones that could relatively easily identify who wears what lid and knows of the changes) are leaving by the millions.

Worry about the real issue chaps, or soon you won't have a sport to worry about any longer...

Why in God's name should the FIA give a flip? It's really getting to be embarrassing to have it known that I am an F1 fan.

    Are team liveries frozen?

As a friend of mine put it to me once...'F1 is the WWE of motorsports...'

I can't agree more. there's so much more bigger issues to look at rathen then the helmet esigns, etc.

The important thing to me is that helmets for two drivers on the same team should be different enough to be instantly recognizable from a distance. That has not always been the case in recent years.

(But I also think that the car numbers should be located on the nose, close to the front end, in a reasonably large and readable size, they way they used to be.)

Whats next for the FIAsco? They should freeze and ban everything. Driver's facial hair and expressions should be locked in and homologated before first race of the season. Alonso has to race with a full beard, Vettel has to only use his index fingers while Ricciardo has to always smile even when he's miffed. Oh and ban fans from attending actual races.

I get it that you may want to change your helmet design from time to time, but from race to race? to each thier own, but I'm for keeping the same design for the season...

it used to be considred back luck to change your helmet design but Schumacher kind of proved that wrong. but I'm superstitious and look at drivers who changed their helmets just when they were getting into the big time and then did nothing- Gerhard Berger comes to mind, - Alboreato comes to mind - he went with the whole Ronnie Peterson helmet style same colors... he tanked.

Eddie Irvine, etc... and if you are going to sell stuff - it helps to keep the same design to build your brand ... Aka Senna... I know people think you need to change and make people buy more of your stuff... but i dont think it works so well.

Whoa Ian.... The Senna helmet colors are fine, but you have to declare a size before the start of the season....;)

I'd like to see a driver stay with a design for his career but those days are over.

The new edict reminds me of Woody Allen's "Bananas" where the dictator ordered everyone to wear their underwear on the outside to facilitate sanitary inspections.

    In the past, in the
f1 program for the race they would show the driver, car and helmet so spectators knew who was driving. Now, Vettle changes his helmet every race.

Maybe I'm cynical being a US sports fans but whenever I see a change in livery I see an attempt to sell more team logo'd gear.
