FYI I just got a solid offer of $32,500 for my Two valve injected (still has sodium) 1982 GTBi. It needs some paint work some scratches and dings here and there, it needs the headliner fixed its sagging, so that means the rear shelf and the visors need recovered, If you do that all the other leather should be replaced as well. Redyed and should be recovered. It needs a fresh 30K service due to time 2009 the clutch and the suspension bushings also need to be done. Car has 18,998 miles. Has been parked for 3 years while I was in Afghanistan. Would you let it go? I had every intention of fixing it and keeping it but I need to money for Business. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dude, your car is like nearly every other one out there. Don't rag on it. You need a service? Hell, 20% of all 308s need a belt service at any particular point in time. You have paint scars? So what. Your car needs bushings and a clutch? Okay, take $3,000 off the price but don't for one second think you should be taking $32,000 for your car. I seriously hope your considering to sell this car for $32,000 in 2015 is not a peek into your true business acumen. I hope you have a way to quadruple the 32k in a couple of years because if you don't, then you will be kicking yourself for selling this car too soon and for such a giveaway price.
Lots of two-valve injected and carb'ed GTBi's. Not many QVs. But, the blue is rare. Still, $32K is pretty low. The color is terrific. Does it have rust or just a few dings?
It would immediately be up for sale at a dealership for just under $50k. $32,500 is quite a low price....
I'd keep it! Nice color GTB you will sure regret it. But it's your car and you know your need more than we do. I thought I would HAVE TO sell my TR and finally I will be able to keep it. I'm very happy I can. Do you really need to sell?
The factory numbers may say so, but GTBs are all few and far between compared to Rosso GTSs. Particularly with respect to cars for sale. And even more so in the U.S. I've always wanted a GTB and I never, ever saw one anywhere, until I started to fly around the country looking for one to buy. I actually am probably in the minority saying I think all these cars are rare. I live in Phoenix part time and can drive around town just living life for a year and never see a Ferrari 308 anywhere. I see a 360 or 430 once a week or more. With less than 50 cars built (by math, not actual stats) for every U.S. State or European country, that's just not a lot of 308s. I have never, ever, anywhere seen a GTB on the road, as an adult and while growing up in SoCal. I know that doesn't mean much, but I have seen Enzos, Model Ts, 57 Chevys, every mid year Vette, and every one more than once. Virtually every 308 I've ever seen at random was a red GTS...
Well there is at least one that have been seen all around the province of Québec. I drove my car for some years to anywhere I wanted to go with it. But I agree they are rare sight.
well its sell the gtbi or my 79 Porsche 930. one must go. One has to go for sure. So $50K for my car right now? I wonder what Ebay would do? RM in Florida?? I am not worried about the work it Needs its just work that needs to be done. I could do most of it in a week but I'm busy on other cars. The paint is just small stuff no rot. I defiantly don't want to leave money on the table, any good auctions coming up I don't follow them that hard I would do the clutch, the service and the interior if I keep it.
You were ready to sell for $35K. Why not try EBay with a starting bid of 35K and no reserve. Market will speak. Make good pictures and put amphasis on the fact it's a rare GTB. Just an idea!
And show off that rare (sought after) color... Gorgeous. A red gtsi just sold between 2 private parties with some issues at the shop I go to for 50k. Robb
I think it's a matter of whatever you're looking to buy seeming elusive and the other stuff seeming common. I had multiple GTBs offered before I finally turned up a couple of GTS QVs. But you're right, I've only ever seen QVs and 328s on the road, even here in San Diego, and those are mostly spiders. For whatever reason, I don't think the early cars, which were all GTBs, get driven much.
I am considering to sell it but my crystal ball is packed up in the attic I don't trust it. I have a 2V car a bottom of the so called barrel depending who's taking. I don't Ebay is a good feel for the market because we have no clue if people actually payed for the car and it traded hands, Not in every transaction, This is why I posted educate myself and others and honestly I haven't researched it I was asked and threw a number out. I have seen the few ratted out POS's that have sold over the past few months think I simply posted what I was offered today for my car and those issues I have. This is a thread talking about prices and bubbles and so on. and my post will be there forever. Now I might have undershot and put my number way to low at 35K but I have to be realistic as well, of course I want all I can get for it. I know I'm asking to low because I got such a fast offer lower than my price of course and then today it bumped $2500. Maybe ebay would be the way to go. Again adding to the conversation I wasnt trying to make the tread about me and my car and my dumbassary.
Sorry that typing job is horrible I'm so bad at this on my phone. I wanted to express I don't trust ebay sale's I also have seen the ratted out cars selling for good money on ebay or they bid them into mid to high twenties on a few. What should mine bring, what could the car bring, what would it bring if I took care of the clutch and the belt service. Maybe we need a straight value thread like the countach value thread. And get away from the bubble talk.
Johnny, I sure didn't intend to dump on you so sorry if it seemed like that. I was under the impression you were close to letting a good car go for dirt money. If your car needed $50,000 worth of work to be a $75,000 - $100,000 car, then what amount should you sell it for? As for a clutch and belts, $5,000 is what it would cost to have someone else do it for you. If it cost $45,000 for paint and anything else the car needs...(rolling eyes), then you sell it for between $25,000 and $50,000 depending on its condition. As far as ebay, you aren't wrong to be skeptical. But if a car shows as it sold and it doesn't get relisted, why not believe the price the auction closed at? In my opinion, ebay sales are under what these cars bring in the private market. Good luck!
I have Condon Skelly. When I called to raise value from $45k to $75k the lady told me that "the average value is showing $38,500". I responded with "there are currently 4 1977 GTBs that I can find for sale online. $115k in Vermont, $171k in Germany, $345k in Canada and one going to auction with an estimated price of $175k. She asked me to hold, a couple minutes later she picked back up saying "I've made the change, will there be anything else?" The change will cost me an additional $35.19 a year.
