Im not sure if I agree with this statement. You have to take into account we are talking about a world market. No just a U.S. market. Something like 15000 cars left worldwide. That is less than longhoods and certainly less than a lot of other collectable cars. Again the 930 audience is huge and worldwide. I feel all 1970s 930s will remain collectable. Early 3.3s 78/79 cars use a 930 VIN as well. For example a 78 930 RoW 735 made and less than 500 remain today or a 79 930 RoW 820 made and maybe 500 remain today. These cars 78/79 RoW are actually very rare with a high attrition rate. Production Numbers R.o.W U.S. 76 930 654 530 77 930 986 717 78 930 725 451 79 930 809 806 ** 1980 last 79 series 384 ** Im not saying that ALL 930s will be as collectable as the early ones. We know that the 75/77 930s will be the most collectable. However 78/79 cars are highly collectable too. I don't see the fasciation with G50 cars as these cars had nothing to do with the racing program. Add to that the 4 speed and the turbo lag are part of what makes a 930 so special and unlike any other car of its era. Lastly as a collector how could you have a 76/77 930 and not have a 78/79 setting side by side. lol
I ran across a greenish gray Porsche folder (8" x 12"? horizontal format) for the 930. There are 3 pictures of a gold 930 that has the repeater on the front fender and the early style rear spoiler. It gives the horsepower spec as 300. Any idea which year that is for? It was published by Volkswagen Canada (so official and not done by a dealer) but no print number or date of any kind printed on it. I assume they took the pictures from a European brochure and published in Canada???
I think your post only serves to underscore 375+'s earlier one: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143730257-post3472.html I still agree with 375+'s post.
My two cents --- I have a 5k mile 87 that i plan to keep for 10 plus years (was not a cheap car to buy) . Its investment grade in my view, as good as any Canepa car . If you are looking for a quick buck then collector cars are not for you unless u are a serious Fcar person. Longer term all great game changing cars end up being collectable to someone. All 930 Turbo's are very special in Europe , Japan and USA (to a degree). Hang on to the great low mileage pristine ones, they will appreciate better than any bank interest or long term bond. I do agree cars with 30k plus miles are not as attractive, but the tide does rise all ships. Just my view. Lets all check back in 10 years....
The production numbers are quite close in reality. I think you want to lump the 1980-89 production years in with the 78/79 cars. By the same token you could lump the 1980-89 production years in with 76/77 cars. The 78/79 cars had a few very special features that no other year had as well. The 76/77 and the 78/79 cars have collectability for sure.
Turn 6, Riverside Raceway, Oct ’73 and Jan ‘76. Riverside Raceway succumbed to housing development and a shopping center. Some features of the raceway were still visible in the 2001 photos below but I understand that very little remains today. Today, there’s a Lowe’s at the location of the raceway sign. I am looking for a front valance for my 76. This one looks close? The fog lights seem wrong? Is the metal section the same as a 76? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Idart, is the green turbo the one that is in some spanish island? Love the colour! Here's another rare colour on a 76 turbo, magenta or karminrot.
I've been by the Riverside Raceway site often in the past ten years. Definitely no sign of any famous racetrack as even more commercial property has been developed. Probably the only vestige of the track is a "Raceway" Ford dealership off the 215 freeway. Andrea thank you for posting that Magenta 930, one my favorite colors, and part of the inaugural IROC race held at Riverside Raceway in 1974. Here's a youtube of the beginning of the race, geez Keith Jackson looks young. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TClOH2QokCw Some of the IROC colors including the magenta and the light-green colored 930 above. I believe for me the earlier years are more collectible. The 1980-89's, the years the 930 was not available in the U.S. If those cars are for sale in the U.S., I want to discount them, federalized, molested. My pet peeve odometer changed to miles. These should be less desirable in my opinion. But its probably just me. For those years, I would however pay a premium for an unmolested Canadian market car. The 930 was never discontinued in Canada.
I may be proved wrong but I believe one year, 1980, no 930's were officially built for the Canadian market. 1979 they were North American cars. 1981 they began being imported in Canada legally as RoW cars Bud
You are probably correct. I've been told the sales here never stopped. But most of the Canadian market cars I've seen for sale have been 81's, etc.
Andrea yes, for sale on 11/23/14 for 79,900 Euro, 69,000 kilometers. It was listed as a 1975 but was a 1976 model year (Nov 1975 build). Black leather interior. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes it's sad, but on the bright side Willow Springs is still there, just up the road! And it hasn't changed hardly a bit over the years. It's fast, fast like Riverside was. Plus it has rattlesnakes, cactuses, and rocks the size of bowling balls. One of the coolest tracks I've ever raced on.

The magenta 76 Turbo is stunning. It looks like the same color as Robby Unsers IROC RSR No. 7 at Riverside. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
personal i think thats magenta is to modern color for the early turbo's more a 964 or 968 color.. the early turbo are better in viper green or mexico blue .. but thats personal..
The magenta looks close to a 72 S rose red I used to own, I hated color at the time, don't even want to think about what car would be worth today. Phil Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Canepa restored 3.0 turbo here 1977 Used Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera at Canepa Serving Scotts Valley, IID 12885684 , can anyone make out what tyres have been used? I'm struggling to identify them. There aren't too many options for 16's that look period correct but I think they are a fair compromise
Cheers PHIL much appreciated, hope they are available here in Aus. Interesting to know what other people are using for tyre replacement in particular for 16 inch used on the later 3.0 cars
