i knew some TS challegne were made are there ways to tell if is a real challenge car? special features? tks
Look for a badge, passenger side, mine says 6 of 32. Peel off the foot well carpets, there are provisions for roll cage bolts.
Not all Challenge cars came with the badge. These were installed by the dealer and oftentimes the cars were sold before FNA received the badges. In addition to the 348 Challenge script on the deck lid, there are 6 roll cage mounting points - 4 on the floor and 2 behind each of the seats (with a small cover that pops out to reveal the mounting point). Underneath each seat will also have mounting points welded in to install eye hooks for a racing harness. Other clues would be aluminum clutch and brake pedals, which seem to have been standard for all Challenge cars (though not necessarily the gas pedal).
The badges were only on US cars, European 348 C don't have them. The 32-US cars are well described on the 348 challenge web site. The key items that may or may not be present - it's a bit up to you as to which of these then defines a real challenge car. 1. Roll cage mounts (flaps in the carpet when the cage goes) 2. Large air plenum (although I have seen 1 car with small) and presumably the matching ECUs. - revs to 7800 but basically the same as Spider/GTS/GTB. 3. Seats (the labels on the back are a specific OMP number) 4. Brake ducts - naca style under the car (these bits are the holy grail) 5. Master Cut Off / Extinguisher 6. Plexiglass over the fog lights 7. Solid bushes on the swing arms / but top mount is standard. 8. May be an switch to enable/disable the ABS. In Europe, I have seen 2 348C that seemed totally bog standard TS and TB, but had the Challenge script - so some caution may be needed.
My comments are from a US perspective 1) standard on US cars as well as eye hook mounting points for harnesses (both on the floor and through the panel (grommeted) in back of the seats) 2) haven't seen this on any of the US Challenge cars, though I have on the Euro cars 3) the OMP seats were part of the Challenge kit, which was an option delete. They wouldn't have come installed in the car except by the dealer or previous owner 4) brake ducts were part of the Challenge kit. You're right. These bits are as scarce as hen's teeth 5) 6) 7) part of the Challenge kit 8) not sure
