I believe that this is the same car as pictured above. Countach race car Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting to note that the roof had to be cut out for the driver's head/helmet to fit! One can see several inches of the helmet sticking above the roof line.

Yes the owner (Paul Halstead) was very tall - the seat was bolted directly to the floor and the roof firstly had a "sunroof" then later became full targa - later as you can see it got S type flares- that's how it remains today.
Those two pictures are reasonably recent, as it has been semi 'restored' since Halstead's final guise; the S flares and chin spoiler were originally smoothed onto the body. Also, different mirrors and wheels - it had flush fitting Alfa Romeo GTV/75 Evo faces, painted white. I have also seen a shot of it at a show with (possibly replica?) OZs or Campognolos and gold plated rear badges.
The original conversion back had Simmons wheels with the flush fitting faces off GTV wheels and the flares integrated onto the body. More recently John the current owner has put a set of OZ rims and from memory the interior redone in blue.
Does anybody know the chassis number of this LP400 ? This Countach spent some years in France in the 90's ; then has been sold in early 00's (I don't know where and to whom...) ; I've heard it has been now converted back to its original LP400 livery... Bruno Image Unavailable, Please Login

Well, eh,thats a Restoration if i ever saw one. Likely to be brought back to life in its original green livery. Very informative pictures, also did not know the early cars had steel floors, where the later cars have sections in fiberglass. Also interesting how bad( in lack of a better word) it looks under the skin, yet stil a driver. Cool cool ,thanks, keep the pictures coming.
GREAT pictures! That's what I like to see more than a finished product. Also, looks like a car well driven. As it should be.
BB4635 < it's a #1120268 lp400. I have seen two time this car in a French Lamborghini owner club in 1996 and 1997 and i was passanger in a road trip... I try to find my pictures and videos...
Thank-you Maxou-w8tt, So, in red (1996) or in white (2007 ?) it is the same LP400 : #1120268 ? I have also a few additional pictures of it, when painted red and in S look. I'll post them ASAP. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
bb, this is not making sense. The 2 picts you are posting are quite unlikely to be the same cars. the red one seems to be a switz born car. Also i am confused about the original color of the restore pictures. Seems it was greenand someone wanted it red while ultimately if it is the car car it ended up white?268 is whitenow for sure. It seesm incredible tome that someone would not repaint some visible part of the car from the inside like near the doors front
The red - S looking Countach - is born as a standard LP400 periscope. I've well known the car when it was in France in the 90's - and already transformed into S body / wheels specs. I've heard that it has now been converted back to its original LP400 configuration - and why not in white - in case it is its original color ? I'm not sure at all if this red car and this white LP400 are in fact the same car - but for me it could make sense... Why not ? That's the reason why I've asked if somebody here should perhaps know its VIN - then the answer of Maxou-w8tt saying #1120268. TBC. Bruno, although I can't confirm the chassis number, I'm looking at the door mirrors, and, I think you're on to something... the white LP400 was restored by Yves S the owner of the green Miura SV in Monaco, if memory serves me right.
I found an old picture - this was back in 1985 at the Saltsburg Ring track - it was a meeting organized by the ILOC of Germany - the Countach was not able to make the banked turn at the end of the straight - the scary thing was that my wife was a passenger at the time - luckily nobody was hurt - I do not know if this 5000S was ever repaired. Valentino came with a brand new Quattrovalvole and posted some very fast times. I had an Urraco at the time. There were also two F1 drivers from the Larousse tem I believe - need to scan some more pictures. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi, I can confirm it is indeed 1120268. It has been restored to LP400 specs during the late 90's. The side mirrors and the missing orange bulb on the front-sides are the only details to link the evolution of this car after its restoration Though there's no doubt the white LP400 is 1120268 (Yves S. could easily confirm), here's something to prove the Red S-specs LP400 is the same car... Thanks to Hervé G. (who owned it when it was red) for this tangible proof. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hervé allowed me to share those pics' of 1120268 when he bought it in Florida in 1986 and when he restored it in Toulouse (south of France) the same year. He owned the car until 1988. He aslo told me he installed S-specs brakes during the restoration, brand-new Sabelt harness and he let the carburators coverless with custom-made air funnels. Great Thread, with great enthuisasts, thank-you to all ! With your detailed inputs and documented data, I've been able to confirm my initial thoughts about LP400 #1120268...from - one time in its life - having looked like a red S, but now back to a sublime original LP400 Periscope configuration, as it should have always been. Thank-you again.
