488 GTB (458 replacement)

If the exhaust from this video is representative of the final product I would be very disappointed.

I agree. From what I heard on that video seems that Ferrari produced nice sound for turbo.

Yes. That's the way it's going to be ... a nice sound -- "for a turbo." But there are compensations: better fuel economy and neck snapping acceleration.

Really dramatic differences! I laugh one's head off...

 

Unfortunately the Speciale still sounds like a Lexus, X pipe needed

 

Now...let's be honest and remember...a lot of folks complained about the sound of the Speciale compared to the Italia when it came out. Is this complaint with the 488 sound more of the same???

 

Well frankly I doubt the 488 can sound worse than the Speciale, the good thing is at least the Speciale can be fixed but the court is still out for the 488 at higher RPM, lower RPM 488 OEM at least sounds good

 

Personally, I thought my F430 sounded better than my Italia. The main reason is because the 458 only makes sound if the gas pedal is depressed and is otherwise quiet if cruising. This is in contrast to the F430 which was much more organic and reminded me of a caged beast. Driving in the 458 Italia in the city and trying to get noise out of it is annoying as you constantly have to have your foot on the gas which is just not practical. If they can fix this bimodal exhaust in the 488 the car will sound better and be more fun to drive.

Well fortunately it seems you can fix any bi-modal exhaust with an x-pipe design, somehow the shorter pipe on the Speciale just makes it worse, like the SCUD vs 430, that's why right now an X-pipe is being made for my SCUD by Kline Innovation

 

Fix the sound or the performance?

Neither the stock scud exhaust nor the Tubi (for the Scud) is an x-pipe design.

Akrapovic also chooses not to use an X-pipe on the 458...keeping both banks separate, then merging at the very end.

Those are some serious exhaust-super-freaks that choose another route. Tells me there is something to that.

I do agree that the x-pipes make it sound crazy though.

 

People complaining about sound should just get a V12. The v8's are just noise.

 

Lets hope V12 will be with us for long, Aston and Bentley claims that they want still build V12 in the future, Bentley even more than nowadays

 

F430 does sound better than the 458. The 360CS may sound better than them all.

From what we know next gen V12 are going hybrid...so they will conserve the sound. As for going V12 for me...there is no center engined V12 Ferrari in normal production...

 

Coupe to coupe, I never found this to be true in my driving experience.

 

I read in another thread that some customers make deposit for upcoming Porsche 960 but there is no much details about car. If 960 would have naturally aspirated V8 engine similar to this from 918 would you go for it and cancel your 488 order?
