I went to check something on my car today and all error messages came off and the car would not start .. So clearly battery seems to be down ... Interestingly enough I drove it for 100 miles yesterday and everything was perfect ... Can the battery go down overnight ? If I put on the tender will it recharge ? I could not close the doors well ... Any problems with that ?

    Very frustrating ....

Thanks a lot for any input

    Cheers

I don't know if you have ff or a F12 however on my f12 when I plug in the charger I just run the cord thru the side window leaving it open a little and then using an extension cord charge it.. that way all the doors are shut ,strange that you drove it 100 miles yesterday unless it was 100 miles at a slow speed with everything on including headlights etc I would think it would be fine.. maybe you have a bad battery??

I had a similar issue on our new 458...drove it quite a bit one day, the next it was dead, low battery voltage, every alarm code blaring and flashing. We are unsure if it was a bad battery, or if I accidentally left the interior light on....

if you drove 100 miles with no issues, chances are

    1) you have a bad battery, however the odds are low since it functioned well the day prior and would have otherwise had a good charge off the alternator

    2) did you accidentally leave a door ajar, or an interior light on? that will consume the battery quickly

If you put the tender on, you may be able to get enough of a charge to start the car, but you will have alarms and alerts galore. These cars do not tolerate low voltage.

You will likely need to have the battery fully charged, then tested; it could be a bad battery or cell, or if you really ran it down it may have issues. You will also likely need the dealer to plug in the DEIS to clear the codes.

Sorry to hear, but should be quickly addressed.

A battery can go down overnight if it is not holding its charge. You ought to check the battery drainage in the car with the ignition off. A decent shop with an ammeter will do it.
You should be able to charge it with your tender, leaving it on as long as it takes to fully charge it. That will enable you to take it to a shop.

As far as leaving it for three weeks without running that is not advised. Most of the time the car will start after that length of time but over time the battery will give out because it does not tolerate successive deep discharges. That could be your problem.

    Thanks a lot, All ...

I will try to chsrge it with the tender but I believe the battery is totally down .. How can I open the trunk to plug the tender ? Three weeks is the time thst I own the car ... I have been driving it pretty much every day and loving it ! But to be frank a bit disappointed that on such a shor time the car is already down . I had Porsches for ages and they never let me down .. Once my Panamera stayed 2 months in the garage without a tender and I turned it on on the first try ...
I also had problem closing the door after the battery went totally down .. Any problem with that ?

    Cheers and thanks again !

Battery problems are not brand specific. I have left FCars on tenders for months and started them without effort. I have had good luck with Porsches also but had a battery in my GT3 short out suddenly at a gas station. S&$t happens.

Once again leaving a modern car for weeks or months without being on a charger is inviting problems.

    Best of luck

sorry, FF or F12? there is a trunk release cord to open the rear hatch, check the manual.

the reason your door will not close is the window is UP....you may recall, when you lift the door latch, the window slides down a bit to unseat, then the door opens; upon closing, the window returns to the fully up position. there are a LOT of microswitches and sensors involved in just opening the door on these cars....

The window glass isn't coming down due to no power....so be careful as you can damage the glass or the molding forcing the door closed with the window fully up.

At this point, you can decide what to do. Definitely alert the dealer; especially if this is a bad battery. You can disconnect the battery completely and put a (real) charger on it. The tender is a tender, not a charger. It may or may not be able to bring the battery back enough. It might be easier to get a new battery and install it, or have the dealer/roadside assistance do it. That, or roadside assistance will have to come over, manually put the gearbox into neutral and winch the car onto a flatbed to the dealer...some dealers may discourage you doing this, as accidental damage to the electrical system is possible, and if you do it by accident, the warranty might get fuzzy....

Thanks , Entropy ... It is an FF .... I guess it will be better to call the dealer and let them take care of it .... Battery is totally down as I can not even activate the alarm ...

    Cheers

My F12 was about 3 weeks old and the same thing happened to me. The dealer flat bedded the car and replaced the battery. Since then no issue.

They use a cheap battery for some reason and won't allow people to upgrade to something better.

Something new for me to learn, is there a way to open a door or the hatch of an FF with a completely dead battery? If so I have not found it, other than a brick :D?

after the original 458 "incident", my friend the Ferrari Master Tech told me if it ever happens, use the key to open the door, be as careful as you can be, and try to get it fixed (i.e. fix the battery/replace it) before trying to close it.... In reality, it should not do damage, but when you try it, the window bends like its going to break. Speciale glass is thinner, wonder if it would hold up?

FWIW, the batteries might be "cheaper", but for NEW cars, I think the bigger issue is the car sits unused on the boat, the battery is drained during PDI (i.e. doors open, engine off), and they just get run down. Cars that avoid this "at birth" and are driven seem to have few issues (this was our ONLY battery issue, though FF's battery was replaced under warranty at 2nd annual as it tested with 2 bad cells...).

These cars are battery killers -1) software and sensors VERY sensitive to any voltage 2) they draw a LOT of current, even when turned "off" (relatively speaking) and 3) they tend to be infrequently driven....(present company excluded of course)

I did exactly that : used the key and I was very careful when closing it ... Another question : I noticed that after I activate the alarm the buttons ( not the screen ) of the multimedia unit ( nav/radio / etc) stays lit .. Is it normal ? I always forget to check if they are still lit before I deactivate the alarm .. Would they turn off after certain time ?

    Thanks a lot
