Seems like an awesome automobile, but is it just me who finds the interior aesthetics and design of every McLaren... fugly?

Exactly. No one ever mentions the interior of the McLaren. Exterior is not my taste either but the current interior layout needs work. Just sparce and cheap looking IMO.

Concur. Weight loss is the key. Will look forward to real world tests.

In Race mode, its not only the valves are opened in lower rpm, but the engine is more aggressive, so louder.
    About the Manettino :
Wet Mode : For light snow.
Sport Mode : For women and seniors who used to drive Lexus.
    Race Mode : For me.
Other than that : Better don't try.
And every time you start the engine, before you push the red start button, make sure you switch off the Auto button. This car only exists in paddle shifting. Automatic transmission was a mistake.

Yeah, everytime I look at the interior of a McLaren, it looks to me as if it is the interior of a japanese car, a Toyota or a Nissan. Nothing wrong with these cars and perhaps I am exaggerating a bit, but I really find the interior aesthetics stale, "soulless", lacking any sort of character for such a great car otherwise. It also doesnt help that the interior seems pretty much identical whether it is a C12 or a P1...

Auto mode is a joke, hits 7th gear driving in the city!

So it should. That's what the Auto mode is for. To drive peacefully and relaxed when you want to and save the fuel in city traffic.

How so? Same quality materials and same options as any Ferrari. CF, aluminum, alcantara, leather. Can do any colors and designs you want. Stitching. The fit/finish is flawless.

It does feel spartan, but IMO that's how a $300K exotic car whose goal is top performance should be. I don't think it's any worse than a Speciale or LF. Mine is all CF, alcantara, and leather. Little bit of plastic on the buttons and knobs of course.

LF isn't exactly doing much on the inside though either. They're both pretty empty and nothing really going on aside from some vents. The difference is mainly that the Ferrari has been spec'd in two-tone red/black which pops a lot whereas a lot of P1s are solid colors. I think LF would look not so great either if it was all solid black alcantara and CF.

Agreed. I like Auto mode and use it a lot. Clicking paddles gets old quickly when all you're doing is going from stop sign to stop sign, and driving around at high-revs at low speeds just makes you look dumb. The noise gets tiresome as well when you're just trying to get from A to B and aren't concerned at all with the driving experience.

+1. Daily driven, auto is a blessing in city traffic and one thing I don't miss about my manual 911 is the experience in stop and go traffic. Don't want to be the yahoo in race mode and paddle shifters banging on the throttle and brakes every 10 seconds. What's the point, I never get out of 1st or 2nd gear?

Anybody ever got a carbon built-up in the intake manifold of 458 after only about 8,000 miles? And how to prevent this? I always use 94 Octane, how come there is a carbon?

This strikes me as very odd from a technical standpoint... I'd say there's something wrong with the car itself.

There is no fuel passing through the manifold as the 458 has direct-injection... Do you have a carbon airbox or manifold ? Maybe dust or sand are grinding off small particles from the inside... But that's just a guess ;-)

Although, getting long in the tooth I still road race (picture as proof). The 458 is not a race car and to use Race Mode results in making noise (as much as opening valves with switch) but making the ride less "comfortable" with every shift. I am not criticizing those who like to cruise and make noise, but would add that any manual or paddle transmission is superfluous in traffic. Best

It may be the same materials but it doesn't have the same "feel". Ferrari 458 interiors feel far more luxurious (my humble opinion) than the 12 C that i had the pleasure to be in. The comparison is not even close!

Drive the he.. out of it in race mode and never use auto again. I'm sure your dealer's service dept manager would give you the same advice. The 458 is a road version of a race car and not meant to be driven softly. Clean that baby out! :)

I've never heard of it being an issue on the 458, but quite a few direct injection cars are subject to carbon build up. Some Audis were particularly bad.
