I don't know, just being charged $600 for cleaning carbon built-up. Don't really understand what is that, just ok it.

Guess it's just a personal taste thing. I think most McLarens get optioned with lots of alcantara and more closely follow the Speciale look than the 458 coupe. The McLaren style is as you said, very spartan and driver oriented, such as the steering wheel being devoid of everything, no glove box, etc. Even the dash feels very hollow if you knock on it.

Then again, this look also helps to keep the devil at bay -- weight. I don't think the 675LT interior is much different than the 12C/650S coupes, yet it will weigh 300 lbs less than the incoming 488.

I think the only real area for improvement is the passenger side dash. It is quite plain indeed, though I've never been in the seat, so I rarely notice it Maybe change some plastic buttons too.

Fortunately MSO will change just any trim to anything you want, albeit for a price. Not cheap, but very customizable.

 

Hmmm. Strangely, the fact that the price is so low is more of a concern. Carbon build-up cleaning on a cheap Audi is probably that much. I'd have expected far more on a Ferrari which makes me think it's kind of bull****.

$600 is like the cost of a fluids change in most exotics, let alone carbon build-up cleaning.

It is not the materials used. I never said that the interior of McLaren isnt made of premium materials.

I said that the aesthetics and the design seems stale and uninspiring. Reminiscent of a Japanese car. And I also criticized the fact that whether you are in a C12 or a P1 or a 650s, the interior is 90% the same.

At least Ferrari has distinct designs for each of its models. Sure they share a familiar design between them, but its different enough for each to have its own character. Also the amount of interior customization makes it way more personalized.

 

True, P1 interior isn't that wild though the doors, steering wheel, dash, and center console/armrest are different. It of course feels similar because the CF tub/cage is similar. To be fair though, the 650S/12C are the exact same car (P11.)

Ferraris have different interior feel, but they also sell 4 distinct models in 4 distinct niches. McLaren pretty much only ever had one car in one niche for sale at any given time.

You can customize them just as much I think, though you rarely see it due to cost. MSO is like the Ferrari tailor made thing. They'll pretty much do anything you want so long as it's legal. If you Google MSO stuff, you'll see some crazy cars. Just about every single piece of trim is customizable in color and material. They do a lot of awesome work, like even redoing an F1 to the new owner's taste, but naturally, the MSO stuff is eye wateringly expensive.

 

Nothing new to talk about just yet. I think all the info that's out has been discussed and there are barely even any pictures or videos of it. Need to wait until at least Geneva for more info and probably a bit longer until the press gets a hold of it and reveal more interesting details about it.

It might be best to put this thread on the shelf until there is some new information to impart. It's starting to read like a consumer report comparison of the 991 TTS, the various iterations of the McClaren (MP4/12C; 650S; 675LT) and the 458/488 (if they'd ever be so bold as to do one!). I know that we're feeling starved of real-life information on the 488, as no one has actually driven it yet, but the topic is presently in a death-spiral, it seems to me! Just my opinion, of course. Not sure that's very accurate. 12C interior is really beautiful - clean design, very functional and a fantastic environment just to be in. Lovely materials and something to look forward to. Ferrari interiors beautiful too - I own both. Neither is higher quality than the other, the real differences being the design and the smell, not the quality. In no way reminiscent of a Japanese car (and I have had around thirty of those).

 

I like the clean, disciplined, functional approach of the McLaren interiors (the steering wheel alone . . . )

Call it boring or Japanese, but interiors like that stress the function, ie, the driving experience. Just my opinion . . .

 

Just to make sure we hear from all sides, I can't stand the interior of the McLaren. Incredible car, fast as hell, great on the track, but nothing else works for me, in or out.

Someone on this forum went to great lengths to tell us that the Porsche TTS is nothing more than a hopped up Beatle. I own one and drive it almost daily, and to me it's an unbelievable car. As a matter of fact, I can't think of a daily driver I'd sooner have.

So my only point is, different strokes for different folks.

Just to be clear, there's nothing I'd rather take for a spin that my 458. Ferrari is the ultimate!
