Well luckily I've never had to file a claim but I've always heard they were fine to deal with.

For a "time capsule", I find this rather reasonable I have to say. Pity we don't have the chassis number, as this car must have never been seen by anyone. Could one of the italian F-Chatters ask the owner for it?

100 k€ would have been a very good deal for a "time capsule" like this, considering the market today: you really have to jump on such an offer and close the deal immediately, bringing the 100 k€ in cash, and voilà! it's done.
But I won't speak about valuations any more! The only thing I am interested in for this car is its chassis number...

You can't be everywhere, Alberto...Italy is a large country, with many Ferraris, and furthermore Rome is already "almost the south", isn't it?

    Hi Patrick,

Yes, in a way: asked price has now come down from 100.000 to 95.000 euros; still not sold.
I know the car rather well, but only by photographs; I'm too lazy to check her in person, although she is in Paris, where I work; the owner is " a friend of a friend of a friend". I tried to contact him to ask if I could have a copy of the factory papers regarding the development status of the car, but until now: no luck so far.
The car is indeed a development prototype, interesting as she has the longer nose (= longer lower lip) of US bumpers, and the rear grill mounted further back as if she had catalysator, except she does not. She was retained at the factory for some years, got an euro engine back in 1988 and was road certified and sold, but still retained the US front bumper and rear grill mounted further back.
The front part of the "tunnel" between the driver's and passenger's ankles is not covered in leather as on other 328s, but carpeted.

For all intent and purposes, Erwin's car is still the first known production 328 GTB.

I try to stay the hell away from anything with "328" in the header excepting for talks or threwads on the 30s BMW car!
I've sold the first Ferrari I ever owned in July 2014, an '87 GTB with 39k kms on the clock and virtually untouched down to the White lithium grease on the throttle linkage for €44000!I wanted to keep her as a family "heirloom" to be passed to my 4yo nephew once he'd been of age but now he'll have to make do with either a Scud or a Speciale...but it won't be the same!
I regret that silly move for a few reasons other than the crazy prices that these Berlinettas demand today..she had passed under Enzo Ferrari's office when the Commendatore was still alive, driven by Dario Benuzzi on their way to the test drive..it's been my first Prancing Horse and I've got cherished memories of her and my youth!
She's gone to a good home (a well known Italian collector),I seriously doubt that it'll be sold but I'd have kept her!Asking prices are now verging into the criminally insane in a perverted, ascending spiral but there must be something behind it!IMO it's nothing that must be directly linked to the Italian market, as our fellow member wrote a few posts above,I nonetheless think that such a steep curve must have been triggered by someone or something!
Many Italian and European owner may remember when in the mid-90s there has been a craze about those cars.A collector offered us a boatload of money in 1995,an offer which was duly refused since "we'd make more than that in a year or two"!Needless to say...in 1996 the car was worth half of what that person had offered!
We'll see....what goes up comes down sometimes, and we're not talking 250GTOs,TRs,288GTOs,F40s and the likes here!
    Cheers

When I bought my GTB in september 2008, the seller (!!) told me: "don't you ever sell her, or you will regret it dearly".
Since then, all persons that I know who have had one on day, and sold her have told me the same thing: "I should not have sold that car".
Despite her paint being questionable - but this will be corrected some day in the future - interior is very good and engine in great shape; raise in prices/valuation or not, I intend to keep 81085 as long as I can.

    Hi Nerofer,
they're KEEPERS!I bitterly regret selling mine, and not because of their appreciation..not only for that reason at least!
And to think that in December 2013 I'd have bought at least five top-notch 328s in Italy for €200k TOPS,but as they say...MAKE ME A DIVINER AND I'LL MAKE THEE RICH!
The paint is not a problem;if the mechanicals are sound, the interior has no rips, tears, damage to it and it's never been involved in crashes then a few days at the paint shop will turn your beautiful car into an even more beautiful one...looks pretty darn nice from where I sit btw!
In spite of the prices going skywards keep this car...I regret selling mine because it drove like a go-kart and had that peculiar "Ferrarish" driving position to her!
Now,call me crazy, call me romantic call me all the names in your book but let me tell you that when I drove her to the dealer to be eventually sold along a F430 only to come back home in my new, full spec Italia I had this feeling of the car asking me "Why are you driving me there? Why are selling me?You don't need to!I've Always been faithful..never let you down...we've had a lot of good times together...why are doing that to me?"!
I'm being as serious as a heart attack Nerofer...felt like it had a soul and as if I was betraying an old friend!
Something in my ear told me that I had to turn and drive her back in her garage but I had shaken hands with the buyer....being a man of his word sux sometimes!
I miss you ,Lil' Red Rooster!
    Cheers
    Manny

I won't get excited until someone actually pays six figures for a well maintained, high mileage car.

    Then all bets are off.
