LOL! No,seriously guys...there must be really something goin' on to "mud the waters"!I can understand prices going up but rocketing skywards like this......c'mon,it's UNREAL! I'm not talking about this particular car, of course,(in Italy with a million quids you can buy this car Ferrari Enzo Ferrari usata, Benzina, ? 1.350.000,- a Pergine Valsugana - Trento - Tn ) but I'm referring to 328s as a whole ! IMHO it's the right time to buy a good F355 for I've got this feeling that they will strt following this trend soon ! Over Manny
This BS ain't gunna end well for a lot of buyers. And I'm gunna keep driving my car I over paid for at less than $30K once I get it fixed and out of the garage. It is just a car and an old one at that. You guys really worried about price, sell NOW! You'll buy it back for less in a few years. And I am just a dumb assed retired Army Officer whose been around the block a time or two so what do I know.
ALL OFFER AND CAR POST HERE COME FROM US & WEST EUROPE DOES HAVE ANY F-CHATTER FROM ASIA, AFRICA OR SOUTH AMERICA ? SOME 328 WAS SOLD IN MIDDLE EAST. THERE IS NO MARKET PLACE FOR IT ?
I'll echo Mwr in a way, it's becoming a craze...I can understand a "reasonable" raise in prices that will make some people regret having sold their car before the prices skyrocketed but,as it did happen several years ago for a few models, chances are that the ones that will sell NOW for top $$$ will buy a similar car back for less in a few years! I have regretted selling mine mostly for "romantic" reasons other than for the fact that a mere two months later the very same car would have been sold on a telephone call fasterthanthis, but had I kept her and got an offer for,say,80k/US$110k (the average price which similar cars are now BEING ACTUALLY sold at in Italy and in other European Countries) I wouldn't have thought twice about letting her go!
You already did a big mistake once, why do you want to do another one today too? 100 k aren't too much for a fantastic looking Ferrari like the 328: if a 246 is more than 300 k, why an even better car like the 328 cannot cost one third? Ciao
Hi Albert, I meant to say that IMHO the prices of the 328 won't go higher without eventually falling off! The 246 is another car altogether IMO even if,truth be told, the 328 is a much better car in all respects! in 2001 or so I could have bought a minty,Giallo Fly 246 Spider from an elderly man in Monaco for a very reasonable price but I eventually backed off because I had just bought another car and I thought that I already had the 328 ...that has been an even bigger mistake! A "time capsule" 328 really would be a good investment at this point, that's right, but we should determine what a "good" price would really be...if we're merely taking into consideration the echonomic side of this matter! In fact,to be perfectly honest,I'm looking for a really good one at the moment!80/100k may be a "good" price for a guy hunting one...I stlill have to recover! It all boils down to numbers I'm afraid, there are much less 246s than 328s! Ciao Manny
Man, didn't realize the US 328 GTB Market thread was going to get sucked up in the grand 328 market thread. It was kind of special on its own and now it's part of the unwashed masses. -F
I don't think anyone really made good money with a time capsule car if you factor in the years that money sat tied up in the car, inflation, storage, maintenance, etc
And don't forget TAXES! A one-time sales when one buys a car can be in the 2-3% range. And in Virginia, there are personal property taxes which are in the 2% range each year. Net capital gains tax of as much as 28% from investing in collectibles, and if one is in an uber income bracket, possibly another 3.8% in excise tax.
Hi all, as I have said in one of my previous posts the "right" price should be determined and THEN start talking about Investments! It's kinda like the Stock Market, one day you win, next day you loose, even if I seriously doubt you'd loose by purchasing the right car! A few personal examples;I sold a stunning 328GTB in July 2014 only to see similar cars with twice the milage and not in the same conditions fetching 30/40k Euros more two months later. A few years ago I've been offered a near mint 246 for € 100k...I passed on that one because I had just bought another car...now 100k would give you a basket case! Recently an Italian dealer sold a beautiful 348 TB Competizione (#48 out of 50 cars made) for €66000...unfortunately I hadn't visisted his site and that car got sold overnight! I've recently bought a very low mileage Scuderia as a "stopgap" between one of the 458s and the Speciale and guess what...a few days later I got this call from a German gent who was offering me € 8000 over what I had paid for her...try doing that in the Stock Market with such a relatively low amount of money! I'm calling the Scud a "stopgap" with tongue-in-cheeck of course, since I always loved this car, never owned one and I think that she'll stay with me,appreciating or not! Italy's the WORST place in the WHOLE Galaxy as far as taxes and such are concerned but if you buy, say,a €250000 Dino and sell her two weeks later for €3500000 nobody will ever say anything or tax the gain, providing you're en individual of course! They (the Italian IRS,that is) only want to know where the money to buy that car,or that house,or that bike,or whatever comes from!

I would really love to see one single plausible confirmation for all these wonderful sales. Best Regards Martin
This is a very important point. Same in the UK. Gains on cars are not chased up (yet!) although in theory they should be taxed. There is another important point. Cars stored in long-term storage are completely hidden. More so than any bank account..... The strange thing is, if you decide that you want to make money on a car with all tax fully declared, you cant. At least not in the UK. I was discussing this recently with my accountant. Back when 288GTOs were around 500K GBP I said to him "Why cant I use money which is sitting in my company bank account (untaxed) to buy a 288 GTO as a company asset. Then in 2 years time sell it. Any profit on the sale I will declare as a company profit and pay corporation tax at the correct rate." Unsurprisingly he said I couldnt. In fact the reasons why this cant be done are very complex and I dont really understand them!
We had a lot of different lively conversations. Now it's dead. People complained that there were too many market threads but you are not forced to participate, so why is it a problem? If two or three groups of people are discussing the same topic would you force them to join in a circle and make it a single conversation? I don't get it! Let the threads evolve. There is no need for interference.
