Guys, if you go for 458's maintenance in 2015, tell your dealer NOT to upgrade your software. They will update it for free, without asking you, and the result, your car will sound like Mercedes S class. Normally in Race mode, you start to hear the sound at 2500-3000 rpm, this time it will be 5000 above. Then the rev matching sound when downshift, is so lame. And for some reason, I think the car won't scream before over 8,000 rpm.
I have a funny feeling that Ferrari is preparing the customers to accept the new Turbocharged sound, and this update is on purpose. The performance is exactly the same. Tomorrow I'm going to ask them to set it back to the previous setting or that's it.

Yeah, maybe in 7th gear at 2.5K RPMs, Believe me at 3K RPMs and above, there is no turbo lag, the car is very linear throughout the rev range. The last software update took away the turbo punch and gave us owners a more N/A experience.

Thanks for the tip. You are certainly right. It seems that European regulation will ban valve opening devices on new cars after July 1st 2016 (Switzerland is roped in this change). They say sport cars constructors have abused the system by building exhaust valves allowing them to pass noise test while giving customers the ability to make more noise in higher RPM than test levels. Our remote or switch device will become totally illegal and subject to big fines. I am not sure if Ferrari will build a non european 488 exhaust version, meaning we will most likely all suffer from this. The only option to make a bit of noise will be to go aftermarket and assume consequences if caught. The alternative might be an electronic gimmick to boost the sporty noise inside the car like Mercedes are already doing....how pathetic.
The strategy becomes clear: start to get customer used to less noise with 458 software update, introduce turbo with boring sound and then diffuse the blame on an industry wide regulation....
    We are screwed dinosaurs....

Then they should also ban lawnmowers, trucks, buses, airplanes, etc. And ban honks too.
By the way, the new software code is 393. The dealer is also surprised that the sound becomes so lame, especially the downshift. They told me, it's a new update from Ferrari. Now they want to keep my car and see what they can do about it. What I want is very simple : Set it back.
Be careful guys, tell the dealer NOT to update the software. The sound is seriously lame now. You will notice right away.

Has the Speciale's exhaust sound been changed since it was introduced last year? Do new Speciales sound different (worse) than older Speciales?

Looks good from the front but man does it look bad in the 3rd pic. That scoop shape is just awful! And that tacky detail of the horizontal line off the bottom of the scoop running back and around the wheel opening is just too baroque.

This car needs red or black to de-emphasize the overwrought detail around that scoop. Too bad.

Yeah the video has the music way to loud to actually appreciate whatever the exhaust has to offer...

I have not yet decided on whether I like the new sound or not, but this video doesnt help much.

I am far more concerned about the exhaust sound now with this new video. Very concerned.
I think we are going to get loud but no pitch/scream like we desire.
Similarly, I have no desire for the new m3 m4 vs my prior gen m.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the car will have far more loudness than range. It's a modern, road-going turbo, so what can you really expect?
