I think the 488 GTB is absolutely gorgeous! Color is very subjective. I for one like the 458 better in Grigio, which is why I built mine that way. I will probably go red this time around to change it up.

Tim// Looking at the photos I tend to agree with your assessment. Another way of putting it is that if it weren't for that damned turbo, we would have been given a spectacular update of the 458.*

    * Assuming that the air volume was dictated by the requirements of the TT.

I remember when the 458 came out everybody on this board was really against the looks especially the front end. I had a F430 at the time and thought my car looked better so why would I switch? Then I saw a 458 in person and realized I just had to have one. In five years from now I am sure we will be discussing how the "new" car doesn't hold a candle to the 488!

I agree aesthetically it is beautiful now if only it had a proper motor...

I think the "Speciale look" wheels on the red one look better. And like I said, on my opinion the 488 looks better than the 458, and I also think, that the 430 looks better than the 458. It's just personal taste of course. :)

And about the engine - it's the future, deal with it. :) The car sounds great on the video and I'm sure there is almost no turbo-lag, so why worry so much about the turbos at all?

Ferrari know very well all the doubts, that their customers have about the turbo-engine and I'm sure, that they have eliminated them all , before introducing this car. The California T already has a positive feedback and for sure the 488 will be miles better.

Sound? Fast? Is it really all about that in a 458? I mean a 68' GTO 455 HO is fast and sounds awesome. But all in its a for **** car... And a 650S or 12C will still run away from a 458 Speciale... At track events any 12C will pull away from my '12 458 Challenge and it's faster a Speciale

    :)

I think I need to see it in person to see how the scoop works, but the 488 looks like basically like a 458. So that's a good thing, and if there are a bunch on the road then there will be one for me 20 years later.

650S, 12C, 458, 458S - they are close enough in performance that it will come down to the driver.

Pick the most fun tool for the outing. READ: Not the McLarens ; P

I haven't driven the 650S to be fair, but the 12C was a snoozefest.

    Interesting comments.

Just drove a 650S Spider on the left coast and walked away staggered when compared to the 458 Spider I drove. Loved the noises the Macca's turbos made and found it very exciting.

Great to hear. I've also heard that the 650s has truly stepped up the Mac game. Nice to have so many great choices, and the competition drives manufactures to develop better products for us... :)

I agree somewhat in that I tracked the 458 and 12C on the same day. I walked away feeling the cars were VERY close to each other. If I had to pick just one it would be the Ferrari but the reasons were not so much about performance or handling, but more about looks (interior and exterior) and the Ferrari brand.

Overall though, I left really impressed with the 12C and if the 650S is a step up from the 12C I would likely be more impressed with the performance. I also much prefer the aesthetics on the 650S over the 12C.

Perhaps some of the posters above who drove or rented the Mclaren's didn't track them so you can't really see what each car does at the limit both in corners and high speed. Driving around town is just one take on these cars. It's another world on the track pushing the limits.

I've driven many other cars on track too including Aventador, Gallardo, R8, 430, 911 and the standouts for me were the 458 and 12C by a sizable margin.

Mclaren has done a fine job here and with the 650S would consider buying one if I had more garage space to put one next to my 458.

One thing I will say, despite my having an initial problem with the vents, what is good is that there are many areas front and rear where the design has been really tidied up and is a marked improvement. Also, the revised design language does bring the car bang up to date which is where designers are so strong, like the constant minor updates to the Bentley GT, a few crease lines and details and the outgoing model looks old.

Just to add to this - I drove the 12C and 458 back to back. I was faster in the 12C, but liked the 458 much more. Then just to prove how insane I am, I liked the 430 Scud still more...in which I was slower than both the 458 and 12C : )

They are all great cars, but the experience is much different in the McLaren. I need to drive a 650S...

I'll tell you the new McLaren Sports series being debuted in NY next month is going to add even more options into the mix.

Ferrari knows there are more choices than ever (and more coming).

We will see a $200k'ish F Car in the next two years--guaranteed.

Ferrari will need to expand their current line in order to hit investor expectations.

After introducing turbo in its V8 line-up I am sure interest for V12 could increase drastically! Sp I am hoping for something slightly different from Ferrari: baby LaFerrari with V12 NA & K/ERS.
