Met a guy from Florida skiing today. He had a 360 and two F430s. Drove a 458 on the track. Says he needs something more raw and wild ...has ordered a 488.

Ordered a California and did not take delivery...he hated it.

Think he should get an F40!

Ferrari should at least make a mid-engine N/A v10 hy-kers and make it a on request only car. That should keep investors and clients happy.

I am not sure about that idea since V10 would require new production line (read expensive).

I still think V12 is great choice, since they already have that engine in production. Adding one more model to V12 line would lower production costs since they would produce more V12 units.

    or the latest 675LT...

    ...0-124mph in 7.9s

    That's 0.4s faster than a 488...

    ...1.2s faster than a Specialé.

    And it looks bloody awesome...wawaweewa:

That's even better! Make it a production mid-engine v12 with hy-kers; or just let the laf stay in request only production until the next halo hypercar replacement.

Today, I sat with a fellow car fanatic friend of mine and discussed the 488 design and potential paint schemes. We worked-up a few designs on PAINT and then had a graphic artist friend of ours polish-them-up on Photoshop. All of the schemes incorporate my friend's idea to have the lower nose and nose pillars in black, and, in some of the renders, the side scoop winglets in black. I happen to love Berlinetta Boxers and their two-tone schemes. I know - old school and probably does some aesthetically stupid thing to the 488's design, but I just had to see it! And, btw, I think it turned out, great! Like I said - all for fun. Enjoy!

Thanks! We had fun, and I do think the 488's features allow for a host of scheme mods that can create significant variations in its appearance.

Why does it still look like a turbo? It is a turbo...how would paint schemes define a car as a turbo?

Gotcha. I bet Ferrari finds a way to make it sound like NA paint.

Even Ferrari's 8,000 RPM paint just doesn't sound as good as 9,000 RPM paint.

I cannot see it being this expensive. That's 40,000€ more than the 458..... I could see 205-210 inclusive VAT. 240,000€ is gering into V12 base prices.

It's about right, especially with the currency changes.

210K inclusive VAT would be about 175K before. 175K Euro = 192K USD. In the US, the 458 MSRP, before tax, is already about $235K.

Assuming it's 240K Euro out the door, that's about 264K USD. Back out about 13% for the massive tax difference and you'd end up around $230K. That's pretty much dead on pricing compared to the US.

Interesting car on paper. Have to see how that thing drives. Good for us as enthusiasts.

Definitely mean looking and aggressive. Not sure it is beautiful. Not that I personally care about the latter. ; )

Ferrari in Europe will not set their prices of European manufactured goods based on USD exchange rates. Don't expect reduced prices in America based on the strong dollar either. They'll take it as a profit and call it a day.

Must say at least the front of the 488 looks so much better than the messy design of the 458

I came back from the Geneva today.

Firstly, the staff's behavior was appauling, they were so rude all of them. Normally you just get on with the way they always are at these events, but today absolutely everyone without exception were ridiculously arrogant and snotty.

Thr 488 did nothing for me. The rear is quite okay with the protruding exhausts, but the engine looks tiny in the engine bay. The side intakes actually look a lot better and more well-proportioned in real life than on pictures, but the front is a sad chapter. It is so bland and lacking in passion and emotion. It's very flat and is missing some organic input.

    MisterMaranello,

Thanks, as always, for your very informative posts. I'm sorry to hear about the poor attitude of the Ferrari staff. Imagine how much more appealing the Ferrari brand would be if the staff were humble, friendly, and enthusiastic about sharing the Ferrari experience with the world. To a large degree, Ferrari represents a dream - a fantasy we enjoy partaking in - and Ferrari needs to realize that their staff can ruin the experience by behaving the way they did to you. With all of that said, I ask this with sincerity and full respect: Do you think your opinion of the 488 would be higher - perhaps your enthusiasm for it a great bit more - if you had a more positive experience with the Ferrari staff? I don't doubt your objectivity in evaluating the design, but all of us are apt to be more critical when suffering an experience like you've described. As for your comments on the car, they have made me more hopeful for what I will eventually see in the flesh. Strangely enough, the front was the part I've found most attractive so far, so I have no fear of not liking it. I think, like the others, I was most interested in what the side scoops looked like in reality. Your thoughts seem to eliminate any fears we may have had with them. The back certainly looks good, and the photos of the engine through the glass left me with the exact same impression you described: That's it?? Thanks, again, for your report.

What does Fcar staff have to be arrogant about?
Rivals are making faster cars for less money.

f1 efforts last year sucked. Maybe they can beat Williams this year. Whoopie!
