Thanks Horse Already wanting to get started on getting the car sorted, tires to start with the car has Michelin pilots II on it but they are 12/13 years old and from different factories side to side not front to rear!! I would like to replace them with Michelin again but the rears, 285 / 40 R17 0 ZR appear to be in the unobtaium Category. Tyre rake off the offer: Continental Extreme Contact, GoodyearEagle F1 GS-D3, Pirelli P Zero System,
I'd probably take the Goodyears, Pzero is better grip, but they don't last long. I have Mich PS2 on the 575 and they're great.
Thanks for the insight, as I don't do may Ks the P) maybe the way to go. I will certainly look into Avons , also have connection in Yokohama if they make any thing that size.
If your going to tackle the stickies yourself, have a look at this thread I started a while back. I did my entire 360 myself, and documented my process. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430/464369-how-remove-aircon-buttons-dials.html
Congrats, great colour combo, looks really nice As for the tyres, do Mich make a PS3 in the correct size? I've had both P-Zero's and now PS3's on my daily and find the PS3's to be better all round, especially with road noise!
Michelin Pilot Sport 3 sizes. http://www.michelin.com.au/Products-Services/Car-SUV-LT/passenger_car/size.html?summer=Pilot%20Sport%203
I have the Extreme Contacts on several of my cars, including the 550. They are excellent and much lighter than other tyres. Why do you say tyre rake? Are you not happy with them?
I meant to say Tire Rack, its a US on line Tyre, company. Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels The Having only driven it home the tyers seem OK and as the car was stored for 5 or so years in dry storage away From UV the seems OK well enough for now until I source more.
Chris, thanks for the comment on the Conti's - I nearly put them on the 456, but had recent experience with excessive noise (I would swear a wheel bearing had gone!) on a new Alfa. Are they noisy in 550 size? I eventually went for Khumo as a couple of mates were running them in historics successfully. P Zeros weren't available at the time. They're OK, especially in the wet - always a good thing for a road car. 456 tyres are an oddball size, with 17" rims. Service from Tyre Rack was excellent - 7 days to my door for $400 airfreight.
I thought this car sounded different when I first heard it, after cleaning the label on polished! rear Right muffler The welded tab has what I think is TUBI Style "Competition only" Made in Italy Apologies for the picture bit awkward to get and yes its a cracked mirror and yes the picture has been flipped so its readable Image Unavailable, Please Login
The tyres will be ok in the dry, but do not push them when wet as they will be hard and no grip. Dave, my 550 has a fairly 'robust' exhaust, so tyre noise isn't an issue for me.
Thanks for the info Chris - completely agree that old tyres are bad news. My 456 had 10 year old P zeros - entertaining in moist conditions - I exited a local roundabout (at about 30 k) with as much opposite lock as I could manage, the DOL in the Volvo watching, probably made all sorts of remarks about hooligans. I recently had the doubtful experience of driving a friends TR3A, nicely restored (sorry, I'm an old Triumph tragic) - on 20+ YO Michelin X's - Ye gods, I've had more grip on skis!
I was gaining on a Camry wheels locked @110kph on the F 3 after aquaplaning in the GT4 on 9 year old tyres. Lesson learnt f m off.
Makes the Steering lighter being mindfull in the wet is message i am getting, thats if I have it out in the rain! I have a request in for quotes on the tyres available from the Tyre Rack.
make sure you try locally. I just bought tyres locally at a price tirerack couldn't come near. Exchange rate and shipping are not in our favour anymore.
Thanks for the Tip, hence the request for a quote. I will ask around , its the avaiability of the rear 285 40 ZR 17s is an issue.
