Gents - am in the process of replacing the Ignition Modules on my 94 355.

On removing the first one from its mounting plate above the coil pack, I've noticed a white, almost powdery substance covering both the metallic part of the module (on the underside) and the corresponding metal plate it sits on.

Is this some sort of corrosion or is it some sort of "lubricant" to help rather than hinder the electrical contact area ?.

Any body got any info on what it actually is please ? -

    Thanks in advance

    Laurence

I had a similar substance under the trunk weatherstripping. I pulled back the weatherstripping and this white powder went everywhere. I assumed it was some kind of adhesive that had deteriorated over time. Had to vacuum it out.

It is heat transfer paste that has dried out. When you replace the ignition modules please go to Radio Shack (if they are still in business) and buy a tube. It improves heat transfer away from the ignition module. Cheers!

I thought the "ignition module" and "coil pack" is the same thing.

    What he said.

Any auto parts house will sell a small tube of dielectric grease.

The old stuff many European companies used dried out with age.
