Wow. That's going to be like $30K cheaper than the US. I'm actually really surprised by that.

Hopefully - I think not - the currency changes will reflect in the pricing.

Don't expect cheaper 488 in the US due to the strong dollar. They need to treat each market individually in terms of pricing by using the outgoing model as its basis. A strong dollar simply means more profit for Ferrari when converted back to euro.

They cannot use today's EURUSD rate as it can and will change halfway through the life span of the model throwing things off later. The only way to work it is with separate currencies and independent pricing structures.

Yes But there is a balance somewhere in between.I don't mind them having and extra cushion
But I would mind being ripped off by paying 20% more before taxes for the very same car

I can see McLaren becoming very opportunistic under these currency fluctuations - just saying :)

    That's only ca. 3000 € more than the 458 Italia (199.200 €). WOW! I expected the 488 GTB would cost around 240.000 €. That's a low price increase!

Why does the euro or euro market have any relevance to the US market and pricing? They are self contained and independent. I doubt many 458 owners would be impressed if the depreciation in their cars was accelerated because of some short termist currency speculation based pricing adjustments...

Unfortunately that's not the way it works between Independent economies when it comes to sales prices. When the euro was killing the USD we were paying more for the car. Now the U.S. Customers will pay more. It's just how currencies work.

Id speculate that 99% of American buyer's income is not based directly on the strength of the euro.

Likewise 99% of European buyer's income is not directly related to the strength of the USD

If an Americans can afford to buy a car at a certain price point why should they all of a sudden pay 30% less this year because of an irrelevant currency exchange? What's being proposed here is almost like fuel prices constantly fluctuating based on markets.

I am not sure where Ferrari buys everything for their cars down to a T. However keep in mind that it's not all made in Europe. If they're sourcing ECU from the uk and other materials from China or the U.S. their costs increase because their currency is weak. That means their cost per unit increases at manufacturing due to a weak euro.

Now if they can have a consistent price structure worldwide within each economy it would help offset these manufacturing and part sourcing by turning a higher profit on the sale side in the economies with a stronger currency.

He's saying that today 458 is selling for MSRP or at least being offered close to it. It would not be realistic nor wise to drop the price of the following model by 30-40,000$. This would cause an instant depreciation on all 458s of 50-60,000 or more.

If they were to announce that pricing proposed here they might as well just shut down he 458 line now because everyone in sound mind would cancel their order.

Most world currencies have fallen in respect to the dollar. If I were Ferrari I would raise the MSRP in the USA slightly and call it day.

I'm with you on not dropping the price below the 458 But they can maintain same pricing
and still make a killing and have cushion for further currency fluctuations - IMO

Would ferrari allow you usa based guys to purchase from Germany etc and just ship the cars mainland? Might work out cheaper. Not sure what the import duties are when it gets to the USA though.

This is call parallel imported or grey market good. The main problem other than government regulations is manufacture warranty. Will you buy a new Ferrari with no local warranty for 20-30% discount?

The FNA dealer may not even do any service on such car even if you are willing to pay for it.

Once you federalize the car I doubt the savings would exceed 15%

You could lose much more than that on resale. Who is going to buy a federalized car without huge savings?

I believe in the USA you will see the 488 base price at least 15k over the outgoing 458 base price. Possibly even 20k to 25k over it. My money is on 20k over.
