Pap, they're the tyres that I have on the 456- they work well enough, quite good in the wet, which is my criteria for a road tyre.

Maybe that's a typo. The tyres I got from Tyre Rack are ZR. Can't think that a manufacturer would make tyres of that size/profile that are only R rated.

All the tyres listed for the 456 at TR are ZR rated.

    Those Kumho's Ku 31 are "100" load rating = 800Kg per tyre
    and "W" speed rating = 270 kmh

So no problems at all with a 456 etc

ZR is an old rating, meaning > 240 km/h.

    Interesting thanks
The Bob Jane reference above has that , sorry not that up to speed (sorry for the pun) with tire ratings.
However that seems to conflict with the US rating on the Tyre Rack site.

As the speed rating is usually in the actual tyre number not on the end I am still scptical.
    More reasurch needed

Mike is correct - the ZR is an obsolete rating - the real load/speed rating is found elsewhere - many hours of happy reading on a tyre sidewall. Life was much simpler when it said Dunlop RS5 6.40-15.

For the 456, OE Bridgestone or Pirelli was 98Y - check the handbook or WS manual. Y means 300k+. W means 270+. Pzeros or Goodyear are Y rated.

For the sake of legality - check the tyre placard, that is the legal determinant. I think my Kumhos are W rated, 270k+ is fine by me...

OS is looking like a the way to go cost or not. Manufacturers local sites Pirrelli Bridgstone dont list both sizes however Kumho do. I will call afew today as sites arnt that accurate.
Fleabay has either from different suppliers buy dubious age and not the same version.

It now appears, and I would love some one to prove me wrong, there are no tyres available through dealers for the 456.
Some have fronts and not rears and even Kumho will no longer be supplying the siszes we need.

Just to clarify, the tyres shown on tirerack for your car aren't available here anywhere?

If not, then the only choice is to buy from them.

You are correct I have been chasing locally and no one has any thing of a matching set or rating for front and rear.
Tyre Rack it seems is my best option. I have a friend who I can have them shipped with so it may take a while but that appears the way to go.... sad

I think it's only $400 to ship with tirerack. Not too bad, in the scheme of things

Kumho's turn out to be discounted old stock
By chance have found complete set of Pirellis' that hopefully are a recent manufacturing date.

There may be more sets if its OK I will post on the Aussie thread as they are a very reasonable price.

I figure if they are even 18 months old by the time they get to 10 years they will be worn out

"Off" after 10 years, rather than worn out of course.

The Car has 27K Klms and I recon the original set of Pirrelli's lasted 25K, if I do that again in 10 years I got my money worth!

Speaking of such matters, I just pulled all the rear end off Satan and found the muffler had a big crack in it.

Need to find a cleaner that will get all the alloy sparkling
