How many Boras currently for sale?

I mentioned the bumper reinforcements because one train of thought seemed to be that this was US950 modified to look older. I said the seat style was correlated to early cars, but should have said "seems to be correlated" I have exactly one (late) car to look at and the rest comes from books, magazines, and pictures on the web. Not scientific, but it did seem that way.

And now for something completely different:

The red car in the brochure has lots of unique features, like the chrome plated door jamb trims, wooden shift knob, no supports for the rear carpet, etc. Does anyone know which car it was and whether it still exists?

 

I see plenty of body rust. I suspect it is a car with a lot of needs. Personalized plates of"LIRAPIT" would probably be appropriate ...

THAT is what most $25K Boras looked like when I started shopping for one in 1986.

I like white/red.

The same car would have been $50K - $60K just 2 years ago. Think about it ... it took more than 25 years to double in price and then only 2 years to triple in price. And some still think we are not in a bubble ...

Yes but I can't take credit. I'm not sure who can but I do know that fellow Espada owner "The Doc" has them on his, deservedly so too. His car is beautiful and it did not come cheap.

 

If that much, a lot is not so obvious in those photos, lira canyon could be more appros ...

 

Also listed with the wrong vin#. A 1975 with a vin of 296?
Is this a new trick now by these flippers to try and prevent tracing of the car before a sale?

 

The BIN price has been reduced twice now, on the white Bora - chassis (#296 typo)

Hammered at $165K. Was not as good as the Scottsdale car.

 

Well that one wasn't original and this one looked correct and very nice from the photos save the engine compartment and Stainless steel rocker panels which I think are a good change. I have no idea about the the undercarriage?

That's big price differential. Hmmmm ...

 

The Scottsdale car, while not 100% original was extremely well documented and showed extremely well. The car today had no documentation and was at a different level aesthetically.

 

Sold at $181.5K.

Why would somebody enter this car into an auction without fixing the dent on the rear of the right side SS rocker panel?
Easy fix; probably cost him 20k today.

I'm curious if people think the auction premiums should be included in car valuations?

If I'm buying privately I know I'd negotiate that part out.

As for the dent perhaps it was just a quick flip by someone not so fastidious?

 

I think including the premium is the correct way to value a car as it is a true indication of what a buyer had to pay to get the car. The same is true if a car is sold on consignment through a dealer or broker. In real estate commissions are included in the selling price of the property ... this is very similar.

Yes but in real estate the commission isn't tacked on to the purchase price though so it is somewhat different. And if there isn't a realtor fee then the price can be negotiated lower unless you're a dummy.

 

All that matters is "what a buyer had to pay to get the car."

The real sell price is what the seller put in his pocket after the transaction. That is the price he sold the car for!

 

It depends on how the question is asked. Bob's question was if the auction's commission should be included in determining a CAR'S VALUATION ... and the answer to that question is YES since the seller had to pay that commission to buy the car (and therefore it is part of the final price). Sales taxes, insurance value, etc will be determine on that final price.

Many people rely on dealers, brokers and auction houses to sell a car and therefore what ends up in their pocket is less than the selling price. A similar situation happens in real estate when a real estate agent is used to sell a piece of property.

I am not a fan of auctions and have never bought nor sold a car at an auction. I can see why some people are willing to pay a premium for the convenience of having a good selection of cars to choose from. I personally think buying a car in an environment where you probably did not get a chance to drive it nor speak to the owner is rather dumb.

Regarding the "price" of the car: We could take the mid-point between what the seller paid and what the buyer put in his pocket. That's the way I look at investments historically, such as shares, foreign currencies, etc..

 

And a buyer should pay a premium to do so and have that exercise of "wisdom" tacked onto the valuation of the car?

Just food for thought. None of it matters once the air begin escaping the bubble does it?

Although I must say that judging by the crowds at Amelia there is still a lot of interest in vintage cars.
