You should check out dealer lists from the other years(1987-1989) too, as the dealer list changed somewhat during those years. More change and turnover than one might expect. When I was looking for a car way back then, I ordered up the official worldwide dealer list, which is a separate pub. Could be it's contents are different from whatever's listed in the warranty book(I haven't cross-checked them). I think that pub is the best reference I've come across when trying to decide how many 328GTB cars were imported into the U.S. for each model year. From what I found out, for 1989, apparently each U.S. dealer was allocated -1- GTB and that was it...I don't know if any dealers traded their allocations back to FNA for a GTS or something else(GTBs were not popular then), but at least it's a decent starting point.
Harri, Great to have you here. Can you tell me who the original dealer was for the car? It is listed in the Warranty Book. If you have a moment, take a look and see how the dealer list changed over the years. Also, if you know where to purchase this publication let me know. -F
In the 308 QV parts book the smooth spoiler is referred to as GTB Spoiler and the textured spoiler is the GTS version. Never any indication from Ferrari that changed. Every 328 GTB I service has smooth and every GTS is textured. If you believe that is an error generate a case. It's done all the time. Things are learned all the time about these cars as there is no one definitive source. Don't expect someone else to do the work if you feel the prevailing information is wrong.

The pub I referred to is titled "Sale and Service Organization". Turns out I have this for 1987, 1988, 1989(surprised myself; didn't know I had all of these. Been several years/decade or two since I looked at them). I don't have time right now to go through them and cross-reference dealers to see who came and went, but if you have more specific question(s), lemme know and I'll look 'em up. Pub numbers are: 463/87 - 5000, 510/88 - 3500, 546/89 I suspect 5000 were initially printed for 1987, 3500 for 1988 and I don't know why there's no number for the 1989. Could be they weren't yet done with 1989 and didn't list a print run number. I ordered the 1989 pub in late 1988 and picked up the other two many years ago when ebay first got going in the 1990s. I just recounted the dealer list for 1989 and there are -exactly- 40 U.S. dealers listed. Doesn't include Canada, either, just 40 dealers in the U.S. That's where I originally came up with 35-40-ish 328GTBs in the U.S. for model year 1989. Each dealer was allocated -1- GTB. This would suggest that 40 GTBs were imported that year. However, it's possible that a dealer may have folded before getting/selling a car. It's also possible that an allocation may have been turned back to FNA(no sale potential) and swapped for something else. I know of one GTB that was turned back to FNA, but was later un-turned back from FNA and sold. Anyway, my thinking is there's a max of 40 of these babies for 1989, and a very slight possibility there may have been slightly less. How many survive today and are still located in the U.S. is unknown, and will probably never be known. The only way I know of to verify the number brought in for 1989 would be to get the info from FNA, which probably ain't gonna ever happen. Btw, if your list is correct for '1989', your total of 28 cars would imply that there are -12- other 1989 328GTBs that were imported to the U.S. What happened to those twelve is ripe for speculation... Pretty small numbers we're dealing with here...and, I suppose if you got a hold of dealer lists from all of the various years, and assumed -1- allocation per dealer per year, maybe you could come up with a logical total U.S. production total. If the dealer count had remained constant through these years(which it didn't), 40 * 4 years = ~160 cars. That's bound to be a rough total, as supply and demand for these cars probably changed somewhat during the production run. On another note, on the 'meet-boa' page of the boatechology.com website, there's a typo...might wanna eyeball and correct when you have a chance...
Well, I stand corrected here...been 25+ years and the ol' memory fades... Turns out my 1988 copy of the Sales/Service pub had some postits in it, which makes me think the 1988 pub was what I acquired back in 1988, -not- the 1989. This jogged my memory enuf that I vaguely recall purchasing the 1989 version sometime later in 1989, which would make more sense and might account for the lack of a publication total listed in the 1989 copy. Much later, I picked up a 2nd 1988 copy and the 1987 pub...never got around to finding a 1986 pub. Close enough for Govt. work, I suppose. At any rate, I had a couple spare minutes to look at this stuff, so I did dealer counts for 1987 and 1988, along with the 1989 number, listed above...drum roll, please... : 1987 - 42 U.S. dealers 1988 - 42 U.S. dealers 1989 - 40 U.S. dealers So...correlating the dealer count with the yearly registry list(above), we come up with: 1987 - 42 dealers, 31 cars 1988 - 42 dealers, 39 cars 1989 - 40 dealers, 28 cars Now, as I mentioned above, supply/demand/allocations -may- have changed during the four year run, so one can't assume 100% that each dealer received -1- 328GTB per year -and- sold that individual car. That said, all of this firms things up a bit. Maybe some fchat people who were involved in the game in the 1980s(Rifledriver, etc.) could recall what was going on between the dealers and FNA... And, lastly, I seem to recall reading somewhere(a post in fchat?) that the dealer list changed a bit during the four year run, after publication of these lists, making one or more of the Sales/Service pubs possibly inaccurate. I'm not sure about this tidbit, but something's in the back of my mind about this. However, all of the above is fairly close and a good starting point. Since this occurred before full computerization of records at Ferrari, getting the full scoop might be difficult or impossible these days. As far as purchasing these pubs today, here's an ebay search and a listing for the 1989 pub: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2060778.m570.l1313.TR3.TRC1.A0.H0.Xferrari+sales+and+service&_nkw=ferrari+sales+and+service&_sacat=0 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-Dealer-Directory-Manual-Sale-and-Service-Organization-Book-1989-OEM-/160954163097?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&hash=item25799d9f99&vxp=mtr Hell of a lot $more$ than whatever I paid, back in the day...makes me think I oughta peddle the TR/412/328/Mondial service manuals(blue covers) I bought 15-20 years ago...might be worth some actual $$$ now-a-days
All great stuff. Regarding the number of cars made vs. what is on the list, in general, I have not had too many additions over the four years I have been tracking this model. Brian Crall added a batch a couple of years ago but other than that the same cars keep reappearing. However, for the '89 MY, it does seem that the first owners were more prone to buying and parking, as many of them have low miles, typically under 10,000. And they, more than any other model year, pop up from nowhere. So regarding the '89 MY, I believe the cars not accounted for are sitting in storage somewhere. -F
furmano, "66801 Sep 86" Have you complete VIN ? ZFFXA20A3H0066801 isn't correct ? "76013 RC/Crema Jan 88" Swiss version. look at : FERRARI 328 GTB, Occasion, Benzin, 49'500 km, CHF 65'800.- - AutoScout24
Regarding 66801, that is the correct VIN. Regarding 76013, according to M. Urban's F Register, it is a US car. -F
From the market thread: I see two Giallo cars on the registry. I don't have any notes on 73369 but it is labeled as Yellow/Tan on Larry O'Rourke's registry which predates this one by several years so I assume it's a factory color. If you can find the discussion about the car's color post it up. BTW, I have seen a picture of a yellow US 328 GTB, MY 88.5 or 89, taken at Cavallino and it's not on the registry. It could be a repaint. Maybe that is what you are thinking of. Regardless, 74609 is a rare car. And below is the yellow car from I believe Cavallino. -F Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/144712-fly-yellow-1989-328gts-speed-bj-auction.html I finally located the previous thread about 73369, as well as my car, 74609. It was posted in 2007. "Hardtop" has an old photo of my car driven at either Watkins Glen or Limerock by the previous owner. And further down the page he states that he saw 73369 in a bodyshop after it been poorly restored after it was wrecked. Maybe "Hardtop" can expound more about 73369. Well, I call Hardtop (Dave) a friend of mine but until I see some sort of proof that shows that 73369 was resprayed, or maybe if Dave chimes in himself, I will still assume that the original color was yellow. That said, I have been following the US 328 GTB market for several years now and I don't recall seeing 73369 coming up in any way, whether at a show or offered for sale or anything. Some of these cars have just disappeared. Maybe there will be a wave of them appearing as the early owners age and decide to sell. It does seem that in most cases the same cars come up for sale with a few exceptions. Exceptions like your car and the white 328 GTB from Houston, and a couple of others. But mostly the cars that are known reappear and the cars that have not been seen do not appear. -F

Based on what I have, that is a one out of eight ratio. I suspect that is the general ratio for 328 GTS's as well. -F
The "Nero Metallizatto" or "Nero Fer 901/C" sometimes called also "Nero Carbonio" is rather common in Europe, be it for GTBs or GTSs. I have a number of identified chassis in that color. Certainly not one of the rarest colors. This is my 80515 for her first "top off" sortie of 2015. The spring is still yet to come officially here and it is still a bit cold indeed, with white frost early in the morning, but with some heating, it was O.K. Admitted, she is Euro and a GTS, and the topic is for US and GTBs, but it shows that in direct light, the Black Metallic does not show as black at all, but rather "anthracit". Rgds Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would be interested in seeing how many you have in 901/C. I have been told it is a fairly rare color with 24 leaving the factory in that color between 308/328 production. There are at least five of us who are regulars here with cars this color. PDG
Well: one thing is certain, Patrick: 24 cars between 308s and 328s in 901/C that certainly could not be... because I have so far 37 (= thirty-seven) 328s positively identified in 901/C; that is 31 GTS and 6 GTBs. (The "Berlinettas" in 901/C are 61177, discussed above / 69949 euro / 77266 with grigio interior, same color combo as my GTS.../ 77414, sold new in Germany but today in France / 78118, sold new in Germany, re-sold last year in France, today in Belgium / 78252, euro car today in Japan) But my GUESS (it is only a guess) for 328 is that there are many more in 901/C, because among the list of about 5000 cars than I can access, only about 70% have colors identified, and furthermore, those that are identified as "black" sometimes turn-out to be in "901/C"... I would not be surprised if it turns out to be between 150 and 200 cars in 901/C for the total of all 328s produced. But today: at least 37 are sure. Rgds
Hello Neofer! I was wondering if you would happen to know how many yellow(giallo) 328 GTB's were made, and how many are in Europe? And how many 328 GTS's there are as well? Thank you.
Well...I have 11 328 GTBs positively identified so far as "Giallo", and 31 GTSs, which makes 42 total. However, at least one of the nine GTBs I have today in Europe as being "Giallo", 81646, was advertised a few years back with a "caveat" saying that the car left the factory originally painted Rosso Corsa (i.e, she has been repainted Giallo) In the USA, a GTS, 80126, which is advertised these days, is also a repaint from "White" I believe, to "Giallo". It has to be taken into account that the majority of "Giallo" cars produced are concentrated in the last year of production, as if the color has been somewhat out of favor, then came back in favor again. Taking into account that I have access to lists of "about 5000 cars", and that those don't have colors for all the chassis number listed, I would "guesstimate" that there might have been "about 100 cars" delivered in Giallo? Rgds (Hope I'm not trying to derail the thread...)
