360 engine not running good

Very interesting, would love to know what may be the issue.

Have you tried pulling any codes with a basic OBD connector? Probably won't be much but may be worth trying. For a few SEK it may be worth trying to see if anything shows up.

 

Could be any number of things.

1. check all fuses behind driver and passenger seats
2. Any check engine lights?
3. Did you replace the battery?

Aside from above I doubt you're going to get an answer without getting into the diagnosis. Sounds like time to get her into someone that can work down the algorithm and figure out what is wrong, perhaps plug into a SD2 and get some operating parameters. I hope someone else can chime in with a quick answer..

If it's a very uneven idle, to where it sounds like the car is having a hard time running, it's might be the AFM's trying to re learn the fuel mixture. Try turning the car on but not starting it. Once it say system check okay, press the accelerator pedal down to the max, hold for a second and release. This will tell the throttle bodies to re calibrate. Wait about 5 seconds after releasing the accelerator pedal and try starting. Sometimes the re learn doesn't work every time. I recently went through this when swapping out my AFM's for the CS's. The car will not run properly unless you do the throttle position re learn every time. It got annoying so I put the stock ones back in till I have the ECU remapped.

 

Well, I had these symptoms an was told to replace the throttle position sensor. It's behind the gas pedal. Easy to get at. But before I replaced it I was also told to make sure the connections are clean on the plug.

The give away for me was when I hit the gas nothing happened. It was like really bad Turbo lag. Real pain.

FWIW, it was my throttle body at fault in the end.

 

Interesting indeed....it could also be electrical...under voltage.

How old is your battery? If your battery is almost 4 years old and barely holding a charge I would replace the battery ASAP.

Fully charge the battery first, then turn off main battery power switch, then install the new battery, then try it.

I think the information you have is wrong -- the OBD2 reader should work on all the years of the 360 unless somebody says otherwise. The issue is that you don't get much info from the OBD2 as you would from a Ferrari scanner (SD2 or above). Somebody should correct me if I'm wrong. Did you try an old-style (non bluetooth, etc.) OBD2 reader? They should be available cheaply.

Mines a 1999. Early model. I have no problem with my wifi OBD reader. I'm using the palmer technology app. The one time I actually had a engine light I was able to tell what it was and take care of it. But it allows so much more data to be read if needed. You can clear codes as well with it.

 

Not sure what procedures you have tried to reset the gas pedal and throttle but here is some info on doing the ECU reset after the master switch has been turned back on.

Your description of the fault sounds like it is the mass air flow sensors that are the cause. You would need to access the obd and look up the fuel trims and post them up here. A faulty maf very very rarely throws a code or engine warning light until the motronic units have trimmed the fuelling to the peak of their abilities, when you would get a fuelling-based error logged.

Sometimes relearning the ecu's will cause them to cover up the mass airflow sensor fault and the car will appear to run ok, my advise would be to try and get to the root cause.

 

Is the check engine light on? You may want to purchase one of those $15 wifi obd readers. Download an OBDII app. Than you can read what's going on with the car. Once you see the fault codes it will give you a better idea of what's going on.

 

I have a '99 and OBD works fine. I think your last comment regarding this was that your current reader has worked in the past but you could not connect this time(?). If so I would first try to resolve that or get another reader; for a problem like this I would think it would have to be throwing some kind of basic code.

There was a service campaign to add a ground pin into the OBD II connector to meet US based inspection requirements. It is my understanding that Ferrari left this pin out of the connector originally as to keep the laymen out of the working so to say.

Are the battery poles properly connected and clean? I would also try a known good battery first; preferably brand new and freshly charged.

 

+1. Get a cheap ELM 327 scanner cord off Ebay...$15 or less. It connects to a laptop or tablet through the USB port. Then read the codes. BTW, is the "check engine" light on or not? I am not a technician, but had similar issues with my BMW in the past...one time it was the gas pedal (fly by wire type) and another time it was a bad throttle body. The code scanner identified the culprit both times.

 

Stefan: When you turn of the masterswitch, and start the car again, you let the car idle for 5 + minutes to relearn the parameters?(turn off a/c,ligths and stereo and dont touch the gaspedal)
And you are sure the battery good?

 

Check out this thread about fault code readers, I've now got an ELM327 and connect through WiFi to my Iphone, I'm able to access both ecu's so I'm able to look at various readings for both banks, I think when I last looked I was even able to monitor the throttle position as well, which might be of use to yourself.

You can definitely access both banks. I'm using Palmer Dash Command. I had a check engine light pop on today when I was driving and was able to plug it in and access it whiles still going. I should say directing my gf through the steps. It's really useful.

 

I have never checked visually do they open but my OBD tool tells me that they do and my ears also.

I'd check the gas pedal pot and also any connections you can trace from there back to the throttle bodies themselves.
