I guess I have a bit of a BMW fetish, as well. 1979 E12 (528i) full race setup (that right, RACE) with a nasty little 3.5 I6 under the hood. Damned near won my first event in that car. We're getting ready for the WRL season, this year. 1987 E24 M6 - at Michaelangelo's getting a full interior restoration. After that, she will be completely restored! 2009 M3 race car - still being built. BMW Motorsport body in white shipped on a pallet from Bavaria! Block just came back from machine shop. Gonna run a 4.4L motor with manual 6 speed tranny! Add on the 'euro race' carbon fiber bodywork and she is gonna be SPECTACULAR on track!
Agreed! Here is the 1987 M6 before I sent her in for interior restore. DDM tuning bodykit. Newer BBS wheels (7in wide), Bilstein suspension kit, rebuilt brake system, euro headers, custom built exhaust system, Turner Motorsports performance chip, short shift kit, BOTH A/C's working! Oh yeah, I blacked out all the chrome trim, and lowered the car 2 inches: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I bought this E28 528i 5 speed last week. Lots of jobs to do but It's a really nice straight car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I must apologize. I don't have many pics. It was built as a Lemons car. Suffered a 'shunt' in testing and is being renovated for the WRL this coming season. Here's the only decent pic I have: Image Unavailable, Please Login
The above pic was 'pre-shunt' and here she is practicing the day before Lemons: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm torn. I would either add a thinner 'rub strip' all the way around the car (try to break up all that red) or like you recommended and paint the door strip red. I left it on there because it's the original piece!
Congratulations! I miss my E28 very much. That straight six must have a nice sound to it. Driving old sharknose BMW's on a sunny day is true automotive pleasure
I hear ya, but I think it would look MUCH better with it red. Also, you can buy a new OEM one for less than $100 Id bet.
Kicking around the idea of looking for a trade of my '04 525i for a E36 M3 manual 2 or 4 (preferably a 4-door) door without any luck. KBB list the dealer value for 160K mile '99 M3 coupe, in my area, at between $3065 - $3,777 and they value my '04 525i sedan w/92,500K miles between $8,192 - $10,337. So with that being said I need some help so does anyone in the Houston area have a lead and can put me in touch with a seller? I have always wanted a E36 M3 so I wanted to start the search. Thanks in advance.
309 of 500: 1988 BMW M3 Evo 2 | Bring a Trailer The world is going totally nuts. I had the chance to get an E30 (non evo) for about 15K about 7 years ago, a year before I got the 635. It got away, unfortunately. 100K, even for an Evo, is completely nuts.
KBB is not terribly reliable for older cars like that, an E36 M3 in decent condition with those miles is still a $6-7k car
The Evo version of the E30 M3 is quite rare but I cannot comment on the market value of the Evo version. I just want some help looking for a decent and well maintained E36 M3 in the Houston area.
I searched for 3 months using Craigslist and looking at each major city in TX. All but maybe a couple ads were for absolute crap cars. If you hesitate on a good one, it will be gone before you make up your mind. Good ones turn up occasionally (mine was a good one and there were a couple others that sold quick or were a bit more than I wanted to spend). You need to be patient but ready for when the right one comes along.
Thanks and learning patience when looking for the right used vehicle is key and I am in no rush nor do I need this transaction, just wanted some input. Thank you.
A manual 4 door, unmolested, low milage E36 M3 is kind of a unicorn car. I have one, but looked for a long time to find it. They pop up from time to time, but I'm thinking that the current appreciation crazed market is going to put cherry E36 M3's at very high price points.
I am very lucky and thankful for my current vehicle and could not be more lucky so I am good. I will beat the snot out of a M3 one day though LOL!
Dealers are like pawn shops in this regard. I paid $10.5K last Feb for my, two owner, 86K (now 92K) mile '04 525i and was told by a dealer, several months ago, that the car was only worth $6K. I have yet to even drive a E36 M3 so I need to do so asap if even for grins.
