Early 328 front brake rotors -- help!

Giro Disc made a few floating rotors for those. Call Martin there and tell him I said to sell you a set.

If for some reason that does not work out, get back to me. I have a set of them I have never installed. I might be able to make my existing rotors available.

Or you could get in touch with the various guys that part them out and get a used set. I seldom see bad rotors on a 328.

Ferrariparts.co.uk are showing them as a normal stock holding but still at over $1000 each, which is mental for a brake disk

i was curious to know how much part prices have changed over the years. so i went through my invoices just to see:

in 2006/2007, i started to stock new parts for the restoration on my 77 gtb (everything from bearings, gaskets, pumps, weatherstripping, bushings, sleaves, carpet, leather, pistons, valves, door pins, rebuild kits, and so much more).

in feb. 2007 i paid $1,039.80 + tax for the 4 OEM rotors from the ferrari dealership (probably minor difference in front and rears but the dealership invoice only shows the total for 4). they are wrapped up and sitting in a bin waiting for the installation this spring. with 55,000 miles on the odometer, the original rotors are still pretty good, and i will just wrap them up and store them. I am sure i could get another 30,000 out of them.

i have a receipt from windsor auto, July 1989, to machine rotors ($28.50). a receipt from august 87 from FAF Georgia for 4 OEM pad sets at $30.60 x 2 (presume fronts) and $35.00 x 2 (presume rears). i purchased new OEM pads from the dealership in Feb. 2007, but i cannot find the receipt but do recall it was around $200 each for front and back.

august 1990, $5.10/each for the door pins from FAF georgia...maybe that was why mine came out so easy last month. purchased 4 new pins feb. 2007 from ferrari dealership at $44.98/each. i forget what they are going for now-a-days but thought i had read somewhere they were $90+ each.

there is an invoice from mazuro motors in warren michigan, to replace the clutch. labour and material was $931.13 including shipping and tax. the parts were OEM parts from FAF motors in tucker georgia (clutch disk, pressure plate, bearing, input nut ring, o rings, other minor items). i bet replacing the clutch now-a-days is a lot more than $1000 for parts and labour!

the bellow air box was $32.22 from the dealership in March 1993....i see the hugh increase in prices for these on e-bay.

i am thinking i should stock up on normal maintenance items......otherwise 5 to 10 years from now i will be saying 'i could have got those rotors for $1,580/each....

 

At least the 308 front and rear rotors are now available for a reasonable rate of about $125 a shot as of recently. Rutlands and GT have them

 

I used these when I rebuilt my 87 328 GTS a couple years ago. I looked at the Giro discs but when I called them, they werent in stock and did not have a date when they would be.

The Superformance ones are working just fine. I have no issues with them at all.

 

Someone unloaded a bunch of Brembos back in 2011. Maybe some spares out there?

Has anyone tried Rockauto? They only want $ 319. a pair.. Any warnings on rotors *NOT* to buy?

 

I know this does not address the question but I was wondering why you need new rotors? Can't the old ones be resurfaced - or are they now at minimum thickness?

 

As to mine, the PO replaced original with vented rotors and as someone who has restored cars it bugs me to no end that this is not the "correct" part. If rotors are cheap enough and there is nothing denoting an original Ferrari part then i would consider replacing what I have now with something that at least looks original. Should the day come that I have to part with the car someone is going to ask for a PPI and that person is going to note that the rotors are not right.

 

They don't actually make "custom" rotors. I called him some time ago looking for a front set for my 328 and he said they can't make them. When I suggested he shouldn't say "made to request" when can't actually "make what I request" he got belligerent.

This made it easy to take my business elsewhere.

 

For a while there Tirerack was dumping TR rotors cheap too. Sounded like someone was getting rid of what they considered obsolete inventory.

 

So.. are the original rotors stamped "Ferrari" anywhere readily visible or will a generic rotor be visually the same?

 

I believe vented rotors are original. Do you mean drilled rotors?

If you still are looking for front rotors, PM me.
I mistakenly bought 328 rotors for my 308 from Tirerack when they were pushing them out the door and decided to hang on to them thinking it would help some 328'er out down the road. You can have them for what they cost me + shipping. I'll have to look up the price, but it was, dare I say, cheap. In the meantime, let me confirm the part numbers. They are still in the brembo boxes.
