Anyone know where I can track down the original carpet color for my car? Car is Rosa with tan leather interior and a medium brown carpet. I had to replace the carpet in the foot wells and what I received is is lighter in color than the original. Is the original color call saddle? I have a color chart of what is supposed to me carpet dyes. On the chart is both Light Saddle and Saddle for Ferrari but no breakdown on the models where they were used. the Saddle looks the closet but its only off a chart.

Difficult to Say without a picture, but usually tan leather was frequently matched with what was designated as "Castoro 172" by Ferrari. Unfortunately, replacement carpets do not always use the original factory code names.

My suggestion is to clip a very small sample of the original carpet from where it's been hidden (like under the seat) and take it to an upholsterer to see if it can be matched. You could also call whoever makes the replacement carpet for a sample of the darker saddle color,if they have one. For my own '86 GTS I decided to redo the beastie in red carpet, as I truly dislike the light brown/tan carpet color. I also did new seats in a much darker saddle color, and dyed the door panels to match. I like the result, but that approach isn't for everyone, especially those who want their car to be "original"... whatever that is. To me NO car is original, if its been driven for some 30 years or so, but that's just me!

    Cheers,

The original medium brown carpet is castoro. The original number is 172 but that probably doesn't mean anything today. Your best hope is to match as closely as possible.

Where did you get the carpet from?

+1 Another related question are carpets still available from Ferrari? If not who has bought them from where and what is quality?

I purchased just the foot-well carpet from World Upholstery. The color that they have is too light of tan so I am trying to find a dye for them. I did not want to re-carpet the entire car as the rest was in great shape but the foot-well areas were missing when I bought the car.

I sent the dye shop a clipping of the carpet and they sent me both their Ferrari color chart which lists both a Saddle and 2 shades of Lt. Saddle for '80's cars (as well as Fawn, Sienna, Red, Navy and Black). They also sent me some color samples of some other tan/brown colors. Unfortunately they did not send me a sample of the saddle color, just the color chart.

The carpet photo shows the original darker carpet and the lighter one that was just made. They do not have the matching color.

The color sample chart is difficult to pick the color from. It's the second line of "x's" for Ferrari colors on the chart.

How about asking for a sample of 3234, beige? Looks like the brownest of the lot- to me. Even if you find a dye that will bring the carpet itself to a closer shade, my bet is that it won't work on the edging. What can your local upholstery shop do for you? If you manage to find better carpet, try putting up your stuff from World on eBay, if they won't take it back. Or else just redo the rest of the car in the new color carpet they sent. If so they should give you the same price as if you'd bought the complete set at the same time.

    Cheers,

The ORIGINAL color of your carpets looks indeed very much like "Castoro 172" to me.
