I am sure this information has been reviewed here before, but for those interested, I wanted to have a couple of spare keys to use daily while keeping my irreplaceable original ferrari-horse plastic-covered key in a safe place.

Ricambi offers an attractive option for a decent price, but it is a steel key which many locksmiths won't cut.

I did a little research and found that Silca makes a key blank - # GT6RP which seems hard to get unless in europe

Ilco makes a blank # X152 or FT46. I bought two of these and had them cut at the local locksmith for less than $10. Works perfectly.

    Hope this helps!

Good to know. I program the remotes and have people asking me for keys all the time. I've also heard a $2 Alfa blank works but have no experience with it.

FT46 worked for me too - I bought 3. Worth the piece of mind.

If you have to get steel keys and get resistance from the locksmith, offer to buy him a new blade. My shop just cut steel keys, but made me pay $150 for a new blade after the steel wore there's out.

Try walmart or homedepot. I had mine done at walmart.

Hmm, OP, I bought one of the Gothspeed keys from Ricambi and my little local overpriced rip-off locksmith in a fancy part of town cut it without hesitation for a couple bucks, no mention of steel by me or him. On Ricambi's site it clearly says the Goth keys are brass shanks.

I have the Goth key on my key ring at all times, and the only downside is the black anodizing
rubs off the edges after a while. Not a biggie but if you want to always have a perfect key just buy two and keep one in the safe, or maybe plasti dip it.

Thanks for posting the best low-cost solution for backup/emergency keys, much appreciated.
