488GTB front lifter

do you think that the front spoiler of the 488GTB is lower than the front spoiler of the italia? i am uncertain on whether to order the front lifter or not. i have it on the italia but never really need it.

I doubt the 488 will be much lower than the 458. Perhaps a little difference here or there.

 

It's usually the amount of front overhang, not the height, that gives you clearance issues. Hard to tell from the pics whether the overhang on the 488 is greater.

 

I ordered the front lifter on my '13 Spider more for piece of mind than need. Come to find out my club installed composite speed bumps last year then I found I needed the lifter. It is a relatively small price to pay considering one "accident" will cover the cost.

 

+1. Had this issue with my 911. The black plastic underhang was pretty scratched up. Touched the 458 front once going very slow exiting my bank. No visible scratch thankfully. Truthfully im more worried about the rear diffusers, i always angle backing out of my driveway. My bro would scrape his M3 diffusers all the time at my house.

 

I have it on my 458 and have not once used it. I did not spec it on the 488. Still have time to change my mind though.

 

i have only recently started not to use to front lift on my 458 italia and have never bottomed out (sa far::)). still unsure about the 488. to order or not:::))

Why would you even consider not ordering lifter? You can never add it aftermarket. Do you really want to save a few thousand dollars on a 250k car only to pay it later after one bad scrape? Do you always want to worry about driving your Ferrari to new places without scoping out the angles? Do you ever plan to resell your car?

Lifter has all positives and zero negatives except a nominal upfront cost. Drop some carbon fiber option if the cost really is a deal breaker and go on a diet, you'll drop more weight that way and get the lifter.

 

Weight of lifter system is approximately 10kg over the front axle is a negative for me lol.

I would absolutely order it on the 488. I wish all these lower slung cars had that feature. You can delete some other nonessential option but get the lifter IMHO.

 

This is the type of advice you need to avoid. If you really think 22 pounds in the front is going to throw off your driving experience you must be Schumachers twin. I suppose you're not allowed to put anything in the front trunk either.

Get the lifter and enjoy the car. You'll be more worried if you don't.

Yes, I do not put anything in the front trunk either, I even removed the trunk tool bag and the tire air pump kit too ... unless I go on long trips.

Why do you insist others to opt for the lifter? Some may find it practical or useful, other may not. If one has not had any use of this option before in previous incarnations, I doubt it would be necessary in the new model. The engineers would have taken the practicality concerns into consideration during the design stage. If one had problems with ramp approach angles in the past, then it might be a useful consideration.

You can offer your opinions and advice but please don't run down the comments of others.

 

I hear you, RC33! I have a new 458S that I was not able to spec and it has the axle lift. There are two things that nag me a bit about it. First, I don't love the weight - in a GTD or GTLM car, 30 pounds = a tenth per lap at most circuits. Not much, I know. And, yes, I know, a few gallons of fuel more than make up for this. But, still, a big selling point of the 'special edition' cars are the weight. Second, the axle lift limits the amount you can lower the car.

i think this says it all about the perspective of some advice, and this isn't a Speciale it's a regular 488 GTB

 

I am simply sharing what I practice just like most people here in this forum that I enjoy reading.

This thread is about 488GTB front lifter, I obviously know my perspective very well.

I will adopt the same specifications for a 488GTB just like how I would have done for any other mid-engine rear-wheel drive high performance sports car in the past and future.

Owners will make their own decisions based on their own needs, circumstantial predicament and feedback from the personal experience of others in forums.

An advice which claims 'zero negatives except a nominal upfront cost'? LOL.
