Ahh! From the pictures, it felt really low on the ground... Nevertheless, the level of performance is still astonishing.
Thanks! Its hard to read the #s, am I seeing correctly that the Countach was 1.4 seconds faster to 200kmh?
If you look at the engine images you'll see it has some LP400S applications, and as I said, this car's engine was rebuilt & blueprinted by its enthusiast owner, and I think it was putting out more than standard power.
Dear Joe, new to this forum but enthralled by the hundreds of pages of Countach chat. Clearly you appear to be the "go to" man regarding Contachs so I was wondering if you could shed any light on this. Do you know anything of these two very similar Countachs, red and white. They both appear to be photographed in the same studio setting, and both have horizontal side strakes unlike the vertical Koenig ones. I'm particularly interested in finding some information on the red car with gold plated wheels and attach another photo. I believe it spent some time in California 2007-9. Chassis number is DLA12617. Many thanks in advance if you can help. Fantastic site absolutely rivited. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
No, the candy apple one was bought froom California - many issues - I sold the owner (an American in Norway) a set of original rear rims. He then sold it off - it had non original wheels, side skirts, sunroof and wood trim - I hope the new owner has better taste .........
Howard, welcome! Both Countachs are LP500S examples, Alex has expanded on the fate of the Candy Apple red car, and I believe the white car still exists in that form in Northern California today. its possible that the same shop performed what I can only describe as Automotive Vandalism upon both cars. Neither car has any redeeming features, but, the good news is that they can be rescued.
Late 1987/early 1988. Bianco Perlato/Nero. Can anyone tell me what Motor Show this is? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you Joe for your reply and warm welcome. Also thanks to Alex who I assume is Downdraught666. I was the person who bought the Candy Apple car after always wanting the Koenig version as per the 80s white poster car with 3 views. I believe it's an LP400S residing in Germany. My old white round body now resides in Australia (RHD) so bought this red one blind in 2010 after it moved from CA to NH and shipped it over to UK. I take it out from the garage and start it up every month to warm it through and check it over but really should decide what to do with it. Turn it back to original spec ? VB informs me it was originally plain red (yuk) but the Candy is so tacky, plus the inlaid wood doors and dash, it's like Buck Rogers meets Louis XIV, don't know if I could live with plain red, or re spray it white (which I like) or just flip it (as you say in USA). Ultimately I guess it's nothing that money can't resolve. At least it's going up in value whilst I'm deciding, and after all, one mans meat...... As they say. Thanks again for your help and information, I still have many hundreds of pages to get through, and loving it. Best wishes to all, great forum topic.
I'm glad you took my characterization of the work done in stride, and, as I said, it can be rescued by someone, if not you. Every Countach deserves that, and so if you bought it inexpensively, why not send it to VB in Italy and let him have at it?
Please receive my sincere appologies, Magnidec, for having said your car was a replica! As described by Joe as "Automotive Vandalism", with those kits, wheels, sunroof and other modifications made me look down on them. Sorry.
Brussels Motor Show (Belgium), January 1988. Above the LM002 you will note CGER ASLK which was the former name of a bank in Belgium (CGER was the French abbreviation, ASLK was the Dutch abbreviation)
Hi Joe, I'm not offended in the slightest by your characterisation, as I said, I particularly like the Koenig sills and wheel arches which is what led me to buy the car in the first place. One mans meat etc. what I don't think I could live with is the vivid candy paintwork, gold plated wheels or the pseudo inlaid wood trim. Another problem for me at 6' 4" is poor headroom with the dropped sunroof. My previous standard LP5000S was fine, so the sunroof would have to go. Also, is a full set of original OZ wheels a particularly difficult thing to obtain ??? I'd want to go back to original wheels which may then spur me on to have it painted white. Would you know any of the previous owners of my car ?? I'd quite like to make contact to understand more fully some of the car's past. Apologies to Alex too, I meant downdraught1 not 666. Sorry. Over 300 pages read now and still loving it 😄 Image Unavailable, Please Login
And no offence taken with you either Victor. We all enjoy a common love of the Countach, just some slightly different from others, but it's all good. 😄😄😄 I wonder if the other California car has a similar rear end treatment to mine, with the unusual reflective strip right across the back. Must have involved some metal cutting of the original panel. I can already hear some of you guys crying. But again, nothing that can't go back if I really want to. Best wishes to all Image Unavailable, Please Login
Someone really paid money for this wood trim???? The candy paint is totally ok compared to this. Someone must have thought it is a Buick! I am sure you'll correct this on an otherwise nice looking interior
hi Magnitec Glad to know that the 5000S is in good hands. I am also ok with the side skirts - probably an aerodynamic advantage to stock design. There were many German and Swiss cars modded in the 1980's with similar rear fenders. Personally i prefer the rounder underbody look which was present until 1986-1987. You have a very nice car and when you want can be returned to it's original guise.
Hi Howard, as per my PM, bring the car along to the Countach lunch. Modifications are as per the decade. So, be great to see it in the flesh. Rob
Hi Rob, sorry, new to this forum, don't know where your PM would be located. Alas, cannot bring the car to a lunch anytime. I imported it from USA many years ago and it's been sat in my garage since. I take it out of the garage and run it up every month but it's not registered in the UK so not street legal. I'm afraid it must wait in the pecking order of various projects I'm involved in. Thanks for the invite though, cheers.
Highly unlikely in my opinion, most probably installed at same time as other body and interior alterations. Nothing to back up this assumption, perhaps a previous owner from USA may step in and confirm.......or not.
