Actually not too bad, remember Veyron has an extra ~200HP or so on the LaFerrari, plus the turbos on it loved the cold dense air. In that condition, I would think the P1 would also be close to the LaFerrari too.
I don't blame Chris Harris for thinking of the p1 as the car of the year Iv been to track 8 times so far, gone through 3 sets of tires and one set of pads. Iv yet to take the 918. Next time I'm going I'm probably taking the p1 again, its just too much fun. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
the veyron sorted its wing out , apparently hit 224 later in the day . the la fa , p1 and 918 can't get near that at bruntingthorpe
Supposedly it was very very wet - as reported from the 918 driver. So AWD advantage. At the end with so many evenly matched machines...some you win, some you lose.
Mate 224 in the wet is no joke . Look what p1 hit last year in the dry (209 or 207) that's serious fury from the big bugatti
Well an Agera was present so it will be interesting to see how it did. Regardless, 224mph in the wet from the Bug is seriously impressive.
I'm not surprised if Bugatti wins: it's desidned for insane top speed, and the straight is 2.0 miles - 3.219 Km, and it surely used this time the top-speed-key for less drag! the point is: how was fast... 360 Kph!! it seems an SS
Τhe difference seems massive in that latest video. Dont know if that is an SS but the fact that we have multiple drag races from last Vmax event with Laferrari winning all of them makes this video seem not very accurate of actual performance. LaF seems very affected in these conditions. Now if this is an SS everything is different.
Wouldn't be surprised if the LaF's TC was kicking in most of the length of the runway. 950+hp through two wheels on wet tarmac probably won't completely hook up below 150mph.
Wet surface is definitely a factor for the laf but the veyron hitting 224 even with 4wd is insane! Also when the laf beat the veyron they didn't use launch control This time both did
That veyron was not a super sport , it's a "normal" one . The difference is that this time it was run in low drag mode . This time they were straight drags and the driver actually bothered to put the car into low drag . Apparently the last time he wasn't awate of these modes . If you look at the last years video you will see the veyron wing is really high ( high drag / downforce mode ) and this time not high at all . These are the different modes . In the correct mode l,for drags , the big bug is still king and a Supersport is faster still . I told you all I ran a ss vs a p1 last year and the ss killed it , I was laughed off the forum by Mac fans .
Did either the laf or veyron owner use a vbox? Seems like it absolutely had the laf licked was hoping it would be closer
It's even more I pressive when you consider the gearing . The cars geared for 250 mph , it's a monster . A monster .
In the dry the Laferrari would be quicker up to at least 150, probably higher. Thereafter, the Veyron in low downforce mode would be much quicker. AWD makes a huge difference on a damp runway, the Laferrari would be spinning its wheels even in 4th gear.
I think that the theme of the Vmax event is that if you want a drag racer, your best bet is Bugatti, not Laferrari, 918 or P1. These three hypercars are meant to go fast around corners. Why did they not set up the Dunsfold track to Top Gear configuration and have the Vmax members set their own times now that Top Gear may be no more?
Don't you think it would be much less appealing to many of the owners? Almost anyone can drag race with the new gearboxes but setting a laptime is much more difficult. The driver factor is much higher and "fair" comparisons would be almost impossible. It would just become another trackday. It would however be interesting if they had a pro driver there whom you can offer your car to, to set a laptime. This would be interesting. The LaFerrari, P1 and 918 have the edge over almost every other car from the line to 100 (kph) due to the electric motors providing instant torque. I remember the video of a 918 vs a Koenigsegg Agera R with a rolling start from 50 (kph) and the Egg instantly pulls away because the 918 loses the advantage of the awd compared with the electric power from the line. I think it would be much of the same if you'd put up a LaFerrari against the Egg with a rolling start.
+2 Given a dry, good quality-high grip tarmac, and using LC the LF should be faster till around 200+ mph. After that the Veyron, which is made for top speed, will be faster as the LF reaches its own lower top speed and slows down. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren et. al have abandoned the pursuit of top speed as anything above 200 mph is not that relevant anyway and would also compromise other aspects of the design and performance envelope. It's a design and engineering decision, much like the difference between a fighter jet and an interceptor jet. Fighters usually have a higher power/weight ratio, are more accelerative and infinitely more nimble and manoeuverable. Interceptors on the other hand may be heavier and recalcitrant but they are designed for huge speeds and altitudes as they have a very low drag co-efficient and thermal shielding that can take speeds of up to Mach 3. Much like the Veyron...
