I just got new tires installed on my 360. When I checked the date code they were manufactured the 42nd week of 2012.

Is this normal? A new tire that's been sitting almost 3 years?

Thanks for the help, I have no idea how tire manufacturing works...

    Rick,

Some tires spend a short time on the shelf, depending on tire size, model, or brand. Usually takes about 3-6 months from the time tires are manufactured to the time they are sold.

Some tires, have less demand and will spend a longer time on the shelf or in a warehouse somewhere. I installed Michelin ps2 November 14 and they were manufactured in April of 14.

In your case it looks like your tires sat in a warehouse for a lot longer. Generally a tire life in a high performance car such as yours is about 5 years. Some tire manufacturers recommend replacing tires every 6 years.

On my daily driver I wouldn't care if they are up to two years old, cause I burn through them so fast. But I would not want tires more than one year old on my Ferrari or motorcycle, simply because I change them every 5 or 6 year due to age, not wear.

2+ years old is pushing the limit of what I would consider acceptable...just because that means you only have 3 to 4 years left before they are aged out.]

Interesting to hear about Tire Rack's policies...I have bought one or two sets of tires a year from them for the past 15 years...never had anything older than one year old from them....maybe I am lucky.

PS: Just went out and checked the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's I had installed on my BMW last week (purchased from Tire Rack) fronts are 48/14 and rears are 05/15.

    Thanks for the quick replies.

I had the Ferrari dealer do the tires along with the annual fluid changes. The car was returned today and I checked the tire manufacturing dates.

You are lucky. I bought my RE-11s from them last Aug 2014, and my 2 front tires were dated
40-something week of 2011. Sorry for the language but am so f*!kin pissed with Tire Rack
and I learned my lesson. I know it is fine for street use, but I plan to track my car.

Yes....sent back my first set of Michelin P/S 3's the first go around....front were 15 months old...second set came in at 10 months or so...eventually accepted them and they are fine...although at 2+ years in the car I haul A** in, I would want them replaced with newer rubber.....
