Steering wheel recovering

I sent 2 steering wheels to get recovered. Ten day turnaround, I think they came out really good!!! Amazing work they do in Malaysia.

I have 2 orignal steering wheels for my dino do they do repairs to the broken hoop (typical upper hoop has broken loose making it to flexible.. and where are you sending them..

there are domestic leather vendors that cater to the marine industry ( that's where I found them on the internet ) ... they offer to recover or kits for those wanting DIY... for the DIY one only needs to measure, then pick out the leather... the leather is pre punched so it is a matter of filling in the "DOTS"... I have recovered several wheels over the years with good results

 

I have the same problem with the wheel I have. I would also like to know if they repair the hoops and how much they charge for recovering the wheel? Also, do you happen to have their contact info? Thank you.

 

The hoops can be repaired and the spokes reanodized. They were so good I'm sending 2 more on Monday. Send me a PM and I can give you contact info.

In you first picture - does your s/wheel on the left with the holes have "Dino" stamped at the bottom of the vertical spoke? I have been offered one like this and want to put in a Dino horn and hang in my office ... but the Momo one I have been offered doesn't have the "Dino" script.

By the way - took the plunge and paid $190 for the wheel NOS still new in the box - Jon who is your supplier for NOS or good reproduction Dino horn buttons?

 

Are you sure you did not leave out a 0 there? $190 for an NOS steering wheel is less than 10% of the going rate for one. If so you got one heck of a deal.

I don't think the guy knew it was for a Dino. Heck, it may not even be 100% the correct wheel - but it certainly looks just like the left hand one in Jon's picture - and would certainly be good enough for an office momento!

Turn it over and look for a date stamping.
The steering wheel on the left has a thicker grip which looks to me like a Momo Prototipo and I've seen modern MOMO of teh same that were made a decade+ after Dino Production ended. BTW, I prefer the Prototipo over OEM for driving

The two steering wheels in Jon's photo have different seam locations near the six O'clock spoke position; one seam is offset to the left, another dead center with the spoke.

Has anybody noticed these differences on other steering wheels?

Without wanted to further hijack OMGJon's thread - sorry Jon - I think the one I have purchased is probably the later prototipo, we will see when it arrives. But as I said earlier - it is meant to be a decorative item for the office / man-cave, so originality is not the key for me - as long as it has a visual similarity to the Dino wheel with the holes that I really love... Certainly a better proposition for my purposes than spending $500 to $1000 on a 'proper' 308 wheel which doesn't look as good... In my opinion anyway

The OEM has center seam, the repros I have noticed are the off set ones??

 

I thought it was the other way, OEM is offset.?

The dino blog by Nuvalori shows an exceptional attention to detail in recovering these. Well worth a read.

 

You are correct Tony. OEM was/is offset on the standard wheels.
